ND wants to bail from sinking ship (merged topic)

Who gives a s*** about the conference? The BSC could be composed of any combination of teams and the only one I'll give a rats ass about is the Griz.

The teams coming out of the big sky have been weak in the last couple years, that's a fact. This conference has too many teams, even more obvious fact. If UND wants out of this hugbox then they should feel free to do so and for whatever justification.

So is the sinking ship their own athletic department?

Cause the Big Sky is anything but a sinking ship.

Football is a fad @ UUND. Gets them to hockey season. It's also going to be significantly less expensive to go east & south than to the west coast. They'll go in a notch above Missouri State, so that's good.

Conference does't need complaining and unappreciative fans either.
Oh, so you have a system in mind that enables conferences to select their fans. Those that will only appreciate and never complain. After all, conferences like the BSC never do anything that deserves complaint. That should have a chance to work.

Who said anything about a "system" or a "conference selecting their fans"? I merely expressed my opinion. Aren't I allowed to express my opinion? Isn't it a free country?

Is it your view than you and Everett are allowed to express your opinion/views, and challenge by anyone and certainly me is not permitted, and I'm not allowed to express my opinion or views or disagree with you?
Actually we know we are on point when you disagree.

Actually, this conference would be more interesting if we dropped all the Left Coast teams, along with NAU and SUU,and folded in the North & South Dakota teams. It would be stronger, and travel would be more sensible. Won't happen.

Actually, if you go to Siouxsport, most fans (not all) are not happy about this at all. They really want to be in the Big Sky. They really want to see Montana and Montana St. on the schedule every year, and are especially unhappy about the move as it pertains to basketball.

I'm fairly middle of the road on this issue. I've really enjoyed watching Big Sky competition, especially as the football program has started to improve. And the basketball competition has been fun too, and I'm not a big basketball guy.

On the flip side, there is no denying that there would be perks in the MVFC/Summit as well. Proximity, and being with the other Dakota schools. Most importantly, improving the spending situation. Being in the BSC comes with a big time price tag for travel. UND could have probably stayed in the BSC, but refuses to make the tough call in cutting some sports. I had to see sports go, and limit opportunities to some kids, but from a business perspective, UND is supporting more sports than it can sustain right now.

I do hope that if UND does move conference, that they can schedule some OOC matchups with Montana periodically. It has always been a good draw for the crowd in GF, and I'd rather see UND play MT and up the SOS, rather than some garbage team, or D2 school.

We don't need anyone disagreeing with PR. No one wants any bad fans around here. After all, he played the game.

+1...ha, ha.

For Dartmouth....the 7th best Ivy school.
Careful, here comes the diatribe re. the undefeated 1970 team again.

Do you think ND is "bailing" on a "sinking ship"?

Just looking for an honest yes or no answer.

IMO, absolutely not. I think this is a completely financial decision that UND is trying to make. Also, aligning with the other Dakota schools has its incentives. Makes travel much easier for fans too.

My in-laws are big time Bison fans, so I would really like to see that game on the schedule every year. It would be fun to watch, and tailgating in Fargo is a pretty awesome time.

First, not true. Second, 11th best National University in the US News rankings. Seems pretty good to me.

Actually we know we are on point when you disagree.

And the rest of us know you are wrong. My guess is that you have gotten pretty comfortable being wrong most of your life, based on what I've seen with your posting.

Since the discussion regards opinions (your take), then this confirms in your mind there are right opinions (yours) and wrong opinions. Welcome to the box in the corner.

Then you either can't read very well or you are not looking at the latest US New Rankings for National Universities.

Yes, I have always believed that in some areas there are right opinions and wrong opinions.

If I said that my opinion is that Don Read had nothing to do with UM football becoming a strong and successful program, would you say my opinion was wrong?

No, I would simply disagree with that opinion. That's the way it should work.

If the OP thinks the conference is a sinking ship I feel he is rather mistaken as we still are considered one of if not the best FCS conferences in regards to football and a solid conference in D1 for all other sports. If North Dakota leaves for the Summit / MVFC it makes perfect sense to me especially financially for them. That would leave the following conference members:

-Montana
-MSU
-ISU
-EWU
-Idaho
-UNC
-NAU
-WSU
-Sac State
-PSU
-SUU
-Cal Poly (Football only)
-UC-DAVIS (Football Only)

That's a solid-looking conference in regards to full-time members with the only downside being still stuck in the 13-team shenanigans that football scheduling has become. That being said however it does give us an opportunity to potentially add another school such as NMSU or maybe San Diego to the conference as a full time member. To assist with the finances in regards to travel we could break up football into 2 Divisions, for example:

Big Sky North:
-Montana
-MSU
-EWU
-Idaho
-ISU
-PSU
-WSU or Sac State

Big Sky South:
-Sac State or WSU
-Cal Poly
-SUU
-UC-Davis
-NAU
-UNC
-San Diego/NMSU

There would be no Conference Championship however you would play the teams in your division every single year and only 3 teams from the opposite division. There would be an option to schedule a single team from the opposite division every single year as a "Rival" (SUU vs WSU for example) if they wanted to and most importantly cut down on expenses for travel.

You are welcome to your opinion, but in this case it's wrong. An opinion based primarily on incorrect facts is wrong.
