UND's decision to switch conferences has a financial side to it. They currently have to fly every team for all away Big Sky Conference contests. UND had a multi-mullion dollar deficit in their sports budget and had to consider ways to lesson their financial burden on their athletic department. Also, they would play their tradional rivals; NDSU, SDSU and USD, in the MVAC so the move makes sense for them to consider it. UND has some of the best facilities in the BSC and it has been a good fit and a logicl peer institution to UM...better than some other recent additions to the BSC. I agree the geographics of the BSC are currently stretched too far and wide...

Good academic institution that competes well in all sports. It does make financial and geographic sense for them to move though.
The BSC had the chance to grab NDSU, SDSU, and USD with UND at one point. Instead, the Utah HQ'd conference decided to expand to schools that fit better with the California schools and other schools located in the south. I see it as a missed opportunity. The Dakota schools would have elevated the competitiveness of the league and would have included schools with good academic standing and solid fan support. Unfortunate.
