NCAA Sanctions

EverettGriz said:
In the summary disposition agreement, which the Committee on Infractions rejected in favor of a hearing, the Ducks offered to self-impose a set of sanctions that included one scholarship surrendered for each of two seasons; a reduction by one to the size of their recruiting class for one additional year; two years of probation; and limits on visits made by recruits to Oregon and by UO coaches to high schools.

Oregon’s proposed penalties notably did not include a postseason ban. By holding a hearing, the Committee on Infractions retained the power to levy its own penalties, though it would be a surprise if they deviated significantly from the package the Ducks proposed.

“Severe penalties based on no evidence of Oregon’s intention in the case would be a form of strict liability,” former NCAA compliance officer John Infante wrote on his Bylaw Blog last fall.

I'd say this bodes well for UM.

I hope you're right.

if he means that the n.c.a.a. won't expand on the sanctions based on the quoted comment it probably does bode well. if he means the apparent soft penalty oregon is getting after all the hubbub he's wrong. probably doesnt bode either because these two cases have little in common.

Engstrom is still sitting on the decision to reinstate Poole. I wonder if he is going to make that after the report comes out for political purposes?

Poole is still on probation so that decision can't be made. Once he is off probation then Engstrom will have to decide.

So, Chip Kelly is banned from NCAA coaching for 1 1/2 years, is Pflu next?? Will Weber be in the market for a new O coordinator??

Chip Kelly is gonna be so disappointed that he can't leave his NFL coaching job to come back to coaching college football in 1&1/2 years. :coffee:

A suspended University of Montana football player cannot be reinstated to the Grizzlies until he completes the terms of the deferred sentence he received this week on a drug charge, UM’s athletic director said Wednesday.

Once he has gone through the whole (legal) process, he can come back and appeal, but until then, he is still suspended,” athletic director Kent Haslam said of Poole.

That could happen as early as this summer. Although Poole received an 18-month deferred sentence, he could be considered compliant if he completes half that without problems, said Poole’s attorney, Paul Ryan.

“He will then reapply (to the team) this sumnner and hopefully be reinstated and ready to play for the 2013 football season,” Ryan said Wednesday.

I have not, but that is funny! I will make sure to not eat there next time I am in L.A. Now that I think about it - East L.A. does not have a very good reputation, maybe I will pass.....

Northwestsour,

The information is all from these three: Kent Haslam, Royce Engstrom and Jim O'Day.
It is not new information but is as solid as any. Haslam and O'Day visits were this past month.
Further, what Haslam has stated publicly makes sense. We will get hit but in the end we will be fine.
Why? Mostly smoke and mirrors. Toss in the Missoulian/Williams blather and thats about it!

Wrong. You're lying, because at least one of those were interviewed when the investigation first started in 2012.
