Another fluke by Montana...We get a fumble recovered for a TD in the Endzone and it is called incomplete.....hmmm....homer call??? And then you win on a controversial interception, catch, out of bounds play.....WAgriz is a special place to play, when you have Montana on your uniform...what a joke...total garbage...and your big sky tv coverage sucks, all it shows is all the lame fans and your 8 mascots.

Crash on is way out of eGriz.

Formerly, WMC, did it a few years ago in the NAIA playoffs.

WMC, huh. Now there's a fooball legacy for ya to hang your hat on. Since 1963 when the first NAIA Playoffs for a Championship were inaugurated it took WMC until 1994 to even bother themselves to being involved. Since then a combined 62 - 111 record, inclusive. Not exactly a program I'd base offensive strategies on; nothing personal, I liked Tommy Lee as a person and as a coach, but he couldn't do everything. But that's what it's worth; some good years some bad years, it happens to everyone every now and then.

So WMC did it a few years ago in the NAIA Playoffs, huh. O.K. What does history say for itself being that there's only one game noticed wherein WMC ever won in the NAIA Playoff Format: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/naia/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/FB_ChampionshipRecords.pdf

Was that supposedly 1994 when WMC defeated Glenville St 48 - 38? When you're ten points ahead after the other team scores it's not much more than garbage time. Not much to brag about there. Maybe it's when WMC was defeated 53 - 60 in overtime by Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Not a winning strategy there either, especially when you lose the game anyways.

Could it have been 1995? Nay, couldn't have been that year either. WMC got beat 21 - 49 to Central St of Ohio. Not unless WMC let Central St. score so it's players wouldn't get hurt trying to tackle the ball carrier. Could possibly be.
Perhaps 2002 when WMC got defeated 12 - 30 by South Oregon. Huh, doesn't sound convincing here either.

Well, other than those years mentioned above there isn't any evidence of any other participation by WMC in any Playoffs, NAIA included. So where's this big game strategy cited that allowed WMC to win in the NAIA Playoffs anyways? Just wondering if you got anything backing you up here 'schield.' 'Cause I just can't find it anywhere's. Care to enlighten me?

Of course, I may be overlooking something here. 'schield' never did say conclusively that WMC actually won any game by letting the other team score, now did he? Didn't think so.

Simply pointed out that it was a possibility and agree with Unwrittengriz previous comment:

"If you don't think that has ever happened you don't watch much football. "

I don't know if they won, just remember people talking about it.

I would imagine if they ran the clock down to under a minute, left us w/ no timeouts and kicked a field goal, then we are debating like the Packers-Bears game this year:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/30/mccarthy-further-explains-his-decision-to-not-let-the-bears-score/

or even Holmgren's decision in Super Bowl XXXII
http://jacksonville.com/opinion/blog/401949/vito-stellino/2010-09-28/nfl-midweek-confidential-mike-mccarthys-decision-gave

You may not be familiar with the Harvard Sports Analysis Collective which is a Harvard organization dedicated to the quantitative analysis of sports strategy and management. Their analysis shows that the Packers made an incorrect decision on not letting the Bears score a td. So the numbers show, in some cases, one has a greater advantage letting a team score to get the ball back to win or force OT.

I remember it, but it was the opponent, not WMC, that implemented the strategy and ended up winning the game. It was probably that Pine Bluff team.

WMC led by one in final minute, running back had the first down and should have kneeled it, but they allowed him to score. The opponents then drove the field, scored + 2 point conversion, and won in overtime.

Thanks mtgriz. Ended up emailing a friend associated w/ the athletic department. His response below:

"...what happen was Western was up by 1 and Arkansas Pine-Bluff let Western score in the closing minutes to give them an 8 point lead. Then APB quickly scored and got the two point conversion to send it into OT, where APB ended up winning. I think the finally score was 58-64. If Western would have just taken a knee in regulation they would have won. I can't remember who the runningback was but APB parted the red sea and let him walk right into the endzone. People were screaming at him to fall down and not go into the endzone. What a game!"

Pflu did answer on his show, said letting them score was not on purpose, but that his old Coach at Portland State, Mouse Davis, did it all the time.

It was against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, and they let WMC score and won. WMC scored with 50 seconds left or so, Pine-Bluff let em score and then marched down the field and won. Guess it worked.

And so much for that if it just so happened that WMC went for the two-point conversion and gotten it instead of but the PAT for the tie. Then it wouldn't of been such a hot-shot move by Arkansas-Pine Bluff to begin with now would it? It could have easily have backfired on them. Of course, if it was my decision I would have just have kneed the damn ball from the snap, depending on the downs left, and ended the game that way.

...Western was up by '1' + let(ting) Western score + (6) + two point conversion (2) = 9, no overtime regardless of what Ark.PB does afterwards. That too has happened wherein a team does go for the two point conversion instead of but a PAT in order to tie and subsequently go into overtime. Really all moot.

Insofar has having recourse to what some NFL teams does in relation to what the NCAA is capable of, regardless of division is like piloting an airliner from L.A. to New York and saying..."Damn it all, I'am flying this here piece of junk to the Moon." All a matter of context. You can get your jollies out of insulting everybody else down to your level by your entrapments but in real life, you would have been thrown out of court for contempt.
