MT defensive recruits

For those who missed it in the recruiting thread, Stitt and company hit up Townsend and Boulder today and got two verbal commitments from two solid and sought after MT recruits:

Trase Letexier LB Jefferson High 6'3 230
Jace Lewis LB Townsend 6'1 210

Class B boys who are both studs and the real deal.

Trace and Jace,

Congratulations on your choice!! Welcome to GRIZ NATION!!

Prepare to win Championships!

Have seen both play in person, they are from the same molds as some former Montana kids who were walk ons but after a few years became well known to Griz fans through effort, heart, toughness and I guarantee are as competitive as you will see....and very physical players who will flatten a runner, then go back to the huddle without showboating.

Speaking of showboating it seems to rule the teams as I watch during Post-season games. I'll quit being a Griz fan if that chest thumping crap takes over. 11 men on the field and one makes a play and dances around like a nut case. Class = 0

Good to see these good tough Mt kids coming!

It's a lot different than it was 10-20 years ago...chiefly due to social media and espn's sensationalism over that stuff. Players nowadays have grown up in a much different sports environment, and Montana kids are no exception.

I love seeing players get fired up after a big play, and in fact I think they should have more freedom and not be penalized as much for celebration. They are 20 year olds, let them enjoy it. As long as the taunting stays out of it....I say do whatever. If they are celebrating, that clearly means they have just done their job. That's the important part.

I love these two recruits. Montana LBs tend to work out well, and we are now stacked at LB.

Another nice write up on both:

Ryan Greene, sportscaster in Bozeman just tweeted that Latextier was easily one of the best HS players he had seen in MT and it's a kid who can influence every play

Trase is a beast, saw about 1/2 of Boulders games this year and every game it seamed as if his name was the only one to be called for the tackles. Some added weight and work on his footwork and he will be a great one. Awesome get by the griz.

I really enjoyed the Michigan State - Iowa Big Ten Championship. It was a good old-fashioned slugfest with a minimum of look at me demonstrations.

I noticed neither Iowa or Michigan State showboated much in their bowl/playoff games either!

Don't know much about these guys....did they receive a scholarship offer or are they walkons?

I think that you have to have some sort of Scholarship if you are "Signing" with a team. Don't know if it is full or not, but must be something...

From what I know, they had preferred walk-on offers from both schools unless Stitt and Co. came through yesterday with actual scholarship offers. Knowing the Griz scholarship situation, I would assume they are either preferred walk-ons or half-scholarship kids.

I was told they received partials with ability to get more when our schollies free up next year

Yup okay that make sense. Reason being was because if they would have gotten any sort of aid offer earlier, they would have committed to the Grizzlies immediately. I think Stitt and Ferriter came in with an offer just yesterday even to get them to commit. Regardless, they deserve aid because they are good players! It must be very hard for these coaches from both schools who want to "win" the state but know that they can't offer up a ton of scholarship money right away to these good "fringe" scholarship players. We went through the same thing last year with Marcus Ferriter, Logan Jones, and Josh Hill.

They haven't "signed".......only verbal......can't sign anything until Feb. I know one is preferred, the other not sure if preferred or regular walk on.

Both are preferred walk-ons. Hopefully, they'll be very good players.

You're correct, and I stand corrected. Both are preferred walk ons. My source at Boulder thought Trase was getting a partial but confirmed both as PWOs. Great pick ups!
