MSU Names New Starting QB

Bleskin's entire career will be spent backing up quarterbacks from Texas? Yep.

Roderick was just in a bad spot. Not good enough to start at QB for Nevada and not good enough to compete against Nevada recruits for starting WR slot. He could have started his career at Montana State, in which case they probably would have planned around him and would have had the ball on every snap. Instead he shows up late and winds up getting a few looks as WR. Man what a waste of talent.

I think Roderick could have competed at WR for Reno. I'm not sure if he ever got the chance to. I think he could have a pretty big year for them at receiver. MSU's offense has some weapons. If their OL improves and the QB plays OK, I see them as a contender.

I have not seen any of the QB's compete other than Bleskin last year in relief of our injured McGhee. I thought he did a very good job of managing the team last year in a tough situation. However, I hate to say it but his work last year may have tipped it toward Prukop this year. No one will say it because you can't but Jake did a very good job of running the team, but he did not leave a mark big enough to say, "wow, can't wait until he gets the job".

Now, as we know, Prukop has the job but it only takes one bad fall and Jake or McQ is in, so I think he will stay and punt for the team, and likely will throw the willing TD pass on a called play against the griz in the Zoo to cap his career!

Just sayin...

Good grief  Jake should transfer so he can at least play again. Cramsey is running some kind of read option-Jake out! I find it interesting how scat fans have anointed Prukop the next offensive MVP and he has never taken a snap from center in a live game.

Jake will play again...this year as a Bobcat, and will throw the winning TD pass against the griz this year. :)

I suppose he might play mid 3rd quarter of the always tough "gold rush" game and then turn the reins over to McQuery in the 4th  As far as Missoula is concerned he won't be under center unless Prukop turns out to be a lemon. Unless you think some kind of fake punt will happen  Jake Bleskin is now a back-up quarterback and might consider a transfer.

As per Colter Nuanez on Twitter: "Jake Bleskin isn't going to stop competing, tell you that much. He just threw absolutely perfect 50-yard bomb to Justin Paige #CatCamp2014"

Just wait, the story isn't over...even with Prukop the starter!

There is no contoversey. Prukop is the better QB for Cramsey's offense. He is an athlete and can run and is fast. He also has a quick release and is accurate. Jake was out there today and as Colter said competing. He may also be the punter. He will be a big part of the team this year. It was amazing how close the competition was. McQueary may turn out to be the best of all by the time his career is over. That kid can play.

Depth forces coaches to make tough decisions, but at every position, depth is a good problem to have. I think the Griz QB stable has lots of talent, but the drop off after JJ (until some of the other QBs get more experience) is fairly significant. Right now, MSU probably has a bit of an advantage with Bleskin as an experienced back up who is ready to step up if circumstances so dictate. While I'm looking forward to a stellar, injury free, senior campaign from JJ, I'm also sort of looking forward to the competition for the starting spot next year. Then again, that's next year, no sense getting too far ahead of myself.

I agree to a point. If JJ were the qb at msu there would be a huge drop off as well. 8-)

If you have watched the three MSU QB's compete, I really don't think you would say it is a drop off from JJ. You will be surprised. All three can run and are fast and mobile, have quick releases and are accurate. JJ's backups while they have good arms, are big and less mobile and not fast. There is a distinct contrast.

It's really no surprise that MSU's backups are mobile, fast, accurate, smart, tough, have strong arms, and don't make mistakes. I wonder if Coach Ron Ash has thought of running a three QB offense. Shotgun? Ha, no. Prukop under center, Bleskin under Prukop, and McQueery under Bleskin. Talk about misdirection! Ron could call it the "Human Centipede" and it could be the next big thing in CFB.

Good grief you cat fans kill me. A qb that hasn't even played a game who still is wearing a red jersey is an equivalent to a proven QB who is on the Walter Payton watch list. You got one of those medical marijuana cards. I've even heard cat fans think your true freshman marino is as good as Wagenman. Enough already! You have some good things going on but come on. It would be like Griz fans saying our linebackers have one up on the cats.....they still have to prove it on the field in a live situation. Until then....not.
I'm glad that Ash finally made a decision on a qb and hope him well but to liken him to Johnson shows you are entering "the cat spin zone."

MSU doesn't have the best history of keeping their QBs healthy. They need good QB depth.

When you run an offense where the QB runs a lot, yes you have injuries. You guys saw that with JJ a few times. Yes, it is good to have good backups that can also run that type of offense effectively.

Wasn't trying to say they are as good as JJ . Only that all three are similar to JJ in the type of quaterbacks they are. Very mobile, good runners, fast, accurate arms. Your backups are not like JJ at all. There is a definite contrast there. Therefore the contrast between JJ and the Cat QBs is a dropoff in experience. With the Griz backups the dropoff is experience, mobility and speed. Yes you are right, they have to prove it on the field.

I agree with you about McQueary. I think he will be a great QB for the Cats. Wish the Griz could have signed him.
