MSU Coaching Search

Five coaches have turned it down or withdrawn so far?
Kane
Lubick
Drevno
Wilson
McEndoo.

This is starting to get embarrassing. Such a horrible time for a search. Choach left them up shit creek without a paddle. Whatever “culture” is left, is circling the drain.

Was Drevno even offered the job? I just saw that he was a candidate? Wouldnt they be better off to promote from within at this point?

At least one poster on BN is alleging that he was offered the job. Take that for what it's worth... Which isn't much obviously.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...this is eerily familiar. Engstrom MUST be on that hiring committee.

If all this is true, nobody wants to see this happen to their own program. I certainly wouldn't want the cats fishing it to us, regardless of the rivalry.
Kinda sad in a way, if these offers and rejects are true.
1. Is it aiming too high given a weird time with covid and little national movement? So these coaches want to hold onto their assistants??
2. Are some of these candidates using this as a salary renegotiation for their existing job?
3. Assistants are a package deal? We saw how that went with Stitt.

Just seems odd and a bit disconnected. You look at the early "interested" rumors and where they are now. Seems like (imo) given the record of these recent offers being turned down, the focus should be within the remaining staff, existing fcs coaches then down to div 2.
If I were a cat fan, I would feel about as strong today on Choate as I do Gregorak. I can totally appreciate Choates move. But, he left them high and dry. It's also becoming more apparent that either Leon didnt have a short list in the drawer or he is a complete failure.

If they promote from within now, sure not showing they thought they had the right guy in house. 6th pick not something to brag about considering he would have been there the whole time but wanted multiple others more. Pretty embarrassing in reality if it happens

I agree Ursus, which is why I thought the Wyoming assistant might be the best choice. Has regional ties for recruiting. Proven both with previous teams and QB production.

I think they overstepped and this is now not going to be viewed as the "premier" (media words not mine) job as originally stated.
IF the rumor IS true and you are that previous assistant with ties, and are passing, as an unemployed person, I would think agents are going to be in the ear of their clients. This has now become a PR show, regardless which side of the fence you are on.

Where are all the Cat Fats? A week or so ago, Bigguy was over here running his mouth about all the “very excellent candidates” showing interest in the position. BWAHAHA.

They can’t hire from within as it won’t solve the problems. They have at least 3 positions to fill. If they hire from within at this point, they still would have 3 positions to fill. They should have just let the new coach bring in his own staff. Rip the bandaid off and not prolong this any more.

Just watch. If they do get some schmoe to take over, he will be firing the leftover staff in two years. Just like Stitt vs Traitorak

I am surprised they haven’t had mass player defections at this point. Time will tell I guess. I truly feel bad for the kids. Choate’s leaving was understandable. The way he did it was not.

They are asking these guys to take pay cuts, move to a town with high cost of living, and don't want them to bring their own staff. Gee, I wonder why they are having trouble?

We’ve gone from being a destination coaching position to a sh!t show within a week.

I’ll bet we could find a hungry High School coach with some interest."

They're finally facing reality.
My favorite response to that post was somebody saying, accurately I might add, that if we wanted somebody like Bob Stitt we would have made the hire a long time ago.

Fear not ye brethren. We'll know who will be kicking your asses soon enough.

The only recent Cat coach who could consistently beat the Griz just left you high and dry. Until you actually have a new HC and he proves he can get it done, you have nothing to brag about.

Oh and by the way, Stitt's winning percentage at UM was better than Choate's at MSU. UM fired Stitt because he wasn't good enough while Choate was hailed as the greatest thing since sliced bread in Bozeman. Maybe you would win more games if you did hire Stitt.

Lol. Stitt. He killed you guys. The worst Bobcat team in a generation still beat your ass in Missoula with a true freshman QB that completed 2 passes. Stitt lol. Choate landed a 7 figure deal coming out of MSU, with written offers that included Alabama. Keep posting on Stitt please. Good times.

 you sure about that? Like who? Who do you think is just waiting in the wings ready to pounce? Fisher?

You did want to make the ”hire a long time ago” but failed. You’ve had at least 5 separate coaches known to refuse. Probably more unknown. At this point, you should be thrilled anyone will take it, particularly someone like Stitt/Ash.

Has that ever happened? Has anyone heard of a D1 HC job that went 6+ deep? I’m sure if it has happened the school would want to keep it under wraps. But not MSC. They are shouting it from their collapsed rooftops. Why would anyone brag about getting denied that many times.

How about a D1 job getting filled after Super Bowl? Has that ever happened? Maybe the committee is waiting to interview Bieniemy.

It’s a horrible time for a search. Choach proved you’re better off staying in FBS, and he saw the writing on the wall that he was not going to beat The Griz again. So he got out while the gettin’ was good. All the candidates can see that.

Maybe if you guys make it a virtual position? You know, allow the coach to not have to live in that super expensive shithole.

Also, I happen to know our local dog catcher is looking for a new job. I can PM you his number to pass along to the committee...?

 you sure about that?
Yes, as a matter of fact, I am sure about that. Most inquiries are not followed up on, and yes, these included washed up DII coaches who will run the program into the ground.

You Bozo clowns slay me. You truly believe that Choach's 4-0 record against the Griz is the greatest streak in college football history. Streak??? Let me remind you what a REAL streak is. Do any of you remember 16 in a row? Now that's a streak. 4 in a row is a mere bump in the road. Try to wrap your brain cells around 73-41-5. Dominance, complete and utter dominance. What say you?

Serious question, Is Texas really paying $1M for Choate to be a linebacker coach and co-d coordinator? If so, that might be the only thing that makes sense to me to leave your son at MSU high and dry. Still can’t believe he left without finishing their time together.

Ok Mr. Committee Member. Put your money where your fat mouth is.
If you know “as a matter of fact” that someone inquired and did not get a follow up, let’s hear it!
Guarantee you don’t come back with a real name.
And it will just confirm how full of hot air you bums really are

Yes. My understanding is as much as $1.3M with incentives. The conversation down there from Pete Kwiatkowski was he would take the job if, and only if, he could have Choate as his right hand man. In all places in the CFB world, with the singular exception of egriz.com, Choate is highly regarded and respected as an elite football coach. His career is going to continue to skyrocket and MSU will always know his 5 years in Bozeman was a major inflection point for the program.

The high and dry part is only an egriz narrative, and his son is left to get a degree at a top shelf university and will win many, many football games. Choate left MSU with a shiny new $18.5M facility and a solid foundation to break ground on an IPF in about 1.5 years. In spite of what PR might be saying over here with his blustery bets with anonymous posters, the grizz won't be beating the Bobcats in football anytime soon.

Bahahaha!!! You guys crack me up thinking Bozeman is a destination job. You’re an FCS program, and historically, a really shitty one. It reminds me of a hillbilly who had some luck with Trixie and Tammy back home thinking he has a shot with an actual hot chick in the big city, and falling flat on his face. Everyone is laughing at your program. Do you think just maybe it’s time to aim a touch lower? Fucking clown car act show like you read about.
