MSU Bookstore Invades Griz Country

I guess nobody has the answer. I, for one, hope it's not the Bookstore, but only the M Store downtown.

It's not the bookstore...yet. Barnes & Noble has it currently. The M Store Downtown will close in its current location at the end of the season.

Thanks, IPA. ;)

I, too, would like further clarification.

He purchased the rights to the "M store" but the M Store downtown location is closing. It's up in there air if there will be a new location. He will have the "Stadium Store", inside the stadium. From what I understand, it is just the M store (Stadium) for now with the hopes of then accquiring the UM Bookstore after the B&N contract expires.

Who is he? Folks this is for the M store on N. Higgins. Only the Board of Regents would have the authority to sell the University bookstore to the MSU bookstore. I find this highly unlikely as they are run independently for a reason. Why the hell would administration and Regents not extend the Barnes & Noble contract? They have the contract for most universities in the country and have the buying contracts to receive the best prices for books. I may be wrong here, but I don’t believe any rumors. It makes total sense that the MSU bookstore wants to buy the M store and take advantage of the Griz faithful and take their hard earned cash. This is a purely financial move and I find it hard to believe there is a greater conspiracy to buy the University of Montana bookstore. Frankly, the Board of Regents has more important things to worry about then create a backlash that this would cause. With that said, I was in the M Store last week and they are moving a couple of blocks away because their lease is up. Also, inventory is low because like everywhere there is a logjam of container ships in harbors and they were hopeful to have more gear in store in about 3 weeks. Lastly, I did not know about acquisition by the MSU bookstore last week, so I will never do business with them again.

It's unfortunate the M store is closing. Inventory for the first two homes games has been limited in comparison to past years and I'm sure that the global supply chain issues may have something to do with that. That said they used to carry lots of high quality/unique Items but not nearly as much lately. The recent competition for logo items between the bookstore, Fanatics, Universal Athletics and anyone else I didn't mention has had to put pressure on to make a buck considering Montana logo wear is their only product line...

Once PR gets the fax/printer set up at the lake house, this master piece needs to framed.

"He" is Chad Schreier. And he absolutely wants to take over the UM Bookstore. Barnes & Noble is not doing a good job. They dropped thier corporate sponsorship w/ UM and are consistenly over priced and out of books needed by students. There are already stories of UM students purchasing their books from MSU because they are cheaper and actually in stock.

Hey is this your guys' bookstore or just the M Store downtown?

If anybody had the answer to that, he wouldn't be posting on eGriz. I imagine he'd be on a yacht in Monaco eating giant strawberries with an Instagram model.

So you actually think UM would sell its bookstore to MSU bookstore CEO, Chad Schreier? Buying the M Store is one thing, but pulling this off in a realistic world seems very far fetched! Can you imagine the sh$t show this would create at the next BoR meeting. People would be at the gates screaming for heads to be loped off. Changing the Barnes & Noble contract is one thing, but this? Also, so many professors are moving to online books. My son only had to buy one physical book this year. Last year, as a freshman, he bought 3 his first semester and 2 books his second semester. He is a business and finance major at Montana, so I cannot speak to other majors. He also bought those at the bookstore and not through Amazon because they were the same price.

I actually think that every school in Montana would benefit if their bookstores where under a single umbrella. I think your only holdup is that the CEO of the MSU bookstore is the guy trying to make it happen.
