Moving up?

I personally believe that is what is coming, and I hope it does. When it does happen, I hope the top FCS schools including UM and MSU are a part of it. I think it will be fun.

Ahhh shucks, NB. We're jus lil ol Montany over here. No way we could compete at a big boy level. (say farrrrr too many GRIZ fans)

Can't have lights at the stadium (FSPB). Can't sell beer at the stadium (not enough urinals). Can't book a tee time at Larchmont more than three days in advance (made that up). Every bowl is a potato or a toilet (rather play to be crowned ~80th in the nation). Can't move up to where the program belongs (airfare?). Everyone knows the CFB landscape is completely stable and unchanging at this time, so there are no opportunities. Voltaire once said, "No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking." Dude was full of sh*t.

It simply can't be done.

Reminds me of the famous Descartes quote (I think, therefore I am), and the anxiety he felt when he realized that even those that DON'T think, exist. And they vote.

Preach. Bowl games are participation trophies. Give me a G5 playoff format with a crowned national champion (basically a new FCS with bigger schools/names) and I’m all for it. But for now, FCS is what college football should be.
Absolutely! To think that playing an away game against a no name school for a Potato trophy is “better” always amazes me. The people pushing it would never be the ones paying the millions more necessary every year to “move up”.

I'd rather play in a Bowl game with schools that more often then not give a damn about Football/Atheltics overall then those who invest the bare minimum. Plus a schedule with teams like Wyoming, Boise State, Nevada Utah State ex. is alot more enticing/exciting then Portland State, Northern Colorado, random D2 ex.

Granted the best chance we have of moving up is if the PAC2 only take a portion of the MWC (the rest from the American), on the MWC board a popular theory is the following teams would be gone:
Boise State, CSU, Fresno, UNLV, SDSU + Hawaii Football Only (to offset Gonzaga).

That would leave the following for the MWC: Wyoming, Air Force, USU, SJSU, New Mexico and Nevada.

The obvious first 2 choices would be NMSU and UTEP as they fit the footprint, after that however taking capability and location into account could backfill with us and a few other Big Sky schools and have a decent looking Conference:

NEW MWC:

*Montana, *MSU, *Sac State, *Idaho, Wyoming, USU, Nevada, Air Force, SJSU, New Mexico, NMSU, UTEP

Granted this is a longshot scenario and probably won't happen as most news/rumors/data points to a full merger between the MWC and OSU+Wazzu.

Sweet Jesus. Can we just do the SnowBelt Conference already and be done with it?

Montana
MSU
NDSU
UND
SDSU
USD
Idaho
Weber
UNI

Let the rest of them fight over the scraps.

My hope is exactly the conference that UtGrizfan suggests, except Sac State doesn't do much for me, but the rest would be amazing. I wouldn't mind if Weber was in it too, they have good basketball tradition.

Looks like JMU is going just fine again this year at 6-0.

I see they sneaked by 1-5 Virginia. Looks like JMU has played a fairly weak schedule.

Looking at the title of the article, can JMU find a bowl game? Maybe it should be, can JMU find a bowl game that will attract more than 15,000 fans.

Sac was to give SJSU another California team and would technically give the new MWC the Sacramento Market to help with media deal/TV money.

Watching the JMU vs Marshal game right now. Combined record of the two former FCS powers is 10-2……seems to me success can be found at the next level. How about Jacksonville sate too?!?!?! Plenty of examples of former FCS powers having succes. App state is a bit down this year but they’ve had some success since moving up, as have old dominion, coastal Carolina, Georgia southern……pretty good for a bunch of former FCS teams.

*side note, what a cool conference! The sun belt and MWC are the coolest G5 conferences and it’s not close. So much fun week in and week out with meaningful regional matchups…..it’s what college football was meant to be. If the snowbelt conference ever actually happened it would be a sick conference too

Missing the point entirely. 99% of people here believe we have the resources to be successful at the next level. WE. DONT. LIKE. PARTICIPATION. TROPHY. BOWL. GAMES. Miss me with the 6-6 ‘RoofClaim.com Bowl’.

That… that’s what you respond with? Does part of you agree with the fact the half of the bowl game lineup is a complete joke?

Can’t answer for EG, but I would love to see UM in a holiday season bowl. Wife has the German pyramid going and her mulled wine flowing. Settle in to watch UM play JMU or UCF, or someone. That seems delightful to me.

Really trying not to be chicken little… And you paint a very nice picture, CDA. But this could also easily be the reality of that bowl game. Independence Bowl below. Neutral site games (aside from championship games) are less than ideal imo.

I understand the other side of it, RG, I sincerely do. Or, maybe I don’t. I try to. Either way, I appreciate your input. You’re a good dude. 🤙

The quality of opponent week in and week out in the MWC would be so much more entertaining to watch than anything outside of an occasional intriguing matchup in the big sky. I’ll take Fresno state, San Diego state, Utah state etc…..then there’s the occasional big game like Wyoming gets from time to time. Dude we got to host texas tech in Laramie freaking Wyoming this season. That was sick! And we freakin won. Also sick……and soooo much more enjoyable than watching UM host Idaho freakin state and northern colorado and cal poly and butler etc……..gimme some Air Force action under the lights at wagriz……some Fresno state, Boise state under the lights at wagriz action!!!! let’s do a home and home with app state again, another team Wyoming just hosted….and beat in dramatic fashion….I was at that game. Talk about excitement. Week in and week out the competition level is dramatically better in the mountain west overall than anything the FCS has to offer. THAT is why we should move up. It’s like having playoff games EVERY WEEK

Uh, no.

Playing at Nottingham field in front of 784? Now THATS a complete joke.

Lol. I’m sure each side will always point to the best and worst outcome.

You know 40 years ago some university and community members weren’t afraid to take a chance. They started work on a stadium that would hold far more people than Dornblaser could. They felt that if they built it, people would fill those seats and we could win. That turned into a reality in 1995. They’ve continuously added on and are pushing the limits of the seats that they can sell. We need some more of that ingenuity now and not so much of the complacency we have now if we want to be relevant going forward.

So what? This looks no different then half the Conference games we currently deal with or like Indiana State on the road Last year or other road FCS games. Really isnt the legitimate excuse you think it is.
