Mover-Ups Doing Well

Blue Tears....weather isn't a consideration, or, at least, way down on the list of importance in the minds of the recruits and parents. School, conference, academics, coach are the topics of consideration....not weather. I went through the process with two youngsters.

Just because weather/location didn't matter to your two kids doesn't mean it doesn't factor in to someone else. Listen, I would agree that other areas would seem to be more important than the cold, but it is still something that we don't have going for us when recruiting against many others. If we move up, I just don't think we would have the same recruiting advantage over most of the MWC schools that we enjoy now? Like I said, just my two cents.

Yet the best two MWC schools are in Boise & SLC. Their weather is identical (or worse). Sorry man, your logic doesn't fly.

Actually Boise and LOGAN, Logan is quite a bit colder than SLC and can't be much if any warmer than Missoula in the winter. I have lived in both Missoula and Logan, there is no real difference in the winter weather, as far as I am concerned.

Meh....Loan, SLC, Ogden, Sandy....all the same to us... ;) ;)

Still wondering who's the MWC team in SLC :?: The only team in Salt Lake City is Utah who moved from the MWC to the Pac12 four years ago. In any case using weather and/or population as a predictor is bogus. Sixty per cent of UM season ticket holders come from outside Missoula county. Spokane, Seattle, Ekalaka or Big Sandy...who cares?

I have been a Griz fan, probably longer than you have been alive. However, you are correct, I don't like the FCS, nor the affiliated schools within the Big Sky Conference. That doesn't translate to not being a Griz fan.

I was definitely not questioning whether you are a fan or not, your passion for the Griz is obvious. I like and respect that. I was just having trouble understanding why with the Griz being an FCS school and your disdain for this level, why you started as a Griz fan. No big deal, I was just puzzled. Even though I disagree with you on the FBS move topic, I think Griz Nation is great largely because of the passion that comes from fans like you. Go Griz.

You understand the concept of being born into it, yes?

I don't know any of your situations, that is why I ASKED. Personally, I chose the teams I cheer for, but that is just me. It just seems that if one doesn't respect or enjoy the competition of their team, that they might choose one that is more in line with their beliefs. I like that Spanky etc... cheer for the Griz and will likely continue to do just that. I couldn't change teams either. Lots of people do though, especially if they don't like their team's situation.

AZ mistakingly referred to Utah and Boise as examples in the MWC. I just responded that SLC has pretty decent weather during during the winter (which is true). Weather is a small consideration (as I have remarked now many times), but population around the area definitely matters in recruiting. Coach Delaney on the broadcast the other day mentioned PSU's advantage of being close to a heavily populated area. He said now that they have started winning, look out because they have access to a great recruiting area. Hauck used to mention it all the time as well how teams around bigger population centers have an advantage in recruiting those kids. These are former Griz coaches talking. Montana's biggest recruiting advantages currently reside in our stadium and tradition. We have been able to pry kids away from other schools due to our tradition of excellence. Winning matters a whole bunch to recruits.

I am just responding to posts directed at mine. I thought that was how a message board worked. I agree with not moving to FBS, but alas I have absolutely no power to stop or go concerning a move up.

This message board does not have a rule requiring one to respond to every single post. You won't lose your secret egriz credentials if you don't respond.

You've had a good run on this thread and made your points. Now we should just let this thread quietly make its way down the list. There are many, many more move-up threads just like it buried in the bowels of the server. But, don't worry - there will be more in the future. Then, we can start all over. Fun.

Hey Blue Tears: Let it go man. Stop trying to stop something that is not happening. We are not moving up.

Really, a moving up conversation after watching the team this year. You wouldn't win many games if any.

Winning games is not a prerequisite to moving to FBS....teams hope to win, but it is about money. Do you think that losing teams like Idaho and New Mexico St would hesitate to drop to FCS if not for the money flowing on the FBS level.

Now I understand, it's about the money. UM would be in the same boat as the two schools you mention above. Shitty record and not able to compete but they will get a FBS bowl check. Really?

I was born and raised in Missoula. Griz fan from birth. And don't equate my wanting to move up with not respecting or enjoying the competition of our team. I have for years enjoyed the competition of our team. I just think, after 35+ years in the Big Sky and I-AA, given the position of our program and facilities, it makes sense to take the next logical step.

One of these is not like the others:

We get it. You're a "glass-half-empty" guy. Good for you.

Seems to me you entire argument was about winning games....must have missed the rest of your beautifully presented argument....

Could you guys wrap his up please? We're due for another move up thread this week, and it can't happen without you.

Blue Tears talks about weather being a factor in recruiting. As a parent, I wouldn't be excited about my son playing football in any of those stadiums, (if they can be called a stadium) except, our stadium, of course. Then, a discussion of playing in front of a low fan base follows. All adds up to FCS football not being my choice for UM.

I've got lots more pictures...

Hey AZ, I was actually referring to Spanky with the question you answered, but I am glad to get to know you better. You sound like a die hard Griz, just like me. It was nice to look at the pictures you provided. We do have an amazing FCS stadium. It is what helps to provide us with a recruiting advantage.

For the 5th time now, weather just doesn't do us any favors. It has a small impact on recruiting. Please read the other posts before you respond. On your other note, you are basically saying that you wouldn't be excited to see your son play for the Griz? I sure hope the kid is amazing because he is going to need to be in order to avoid disapointing his Dad.
