Mover-Ups Doing Well

Is it really going to be fun winning national championships at the FCS level when you are beating Coastal Carolina or Chattanooga? Hell, even those teams are probably looking at moving up. The problem with staying put in the FCS is a lot of the good teams are moving up, leaving the FCS as a level that isn't very good. There are probably only 20-25 legitimate teams at this level right now as it is and a few of the top ones would love a chance to move up.
Coastal has already accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt, so unless it is this year the window to play them in a National Championship is closing.

Good for them, bigger dreams than playing in the FCS...another loss for the FCS.

Gonzaga is about to open a med school among other things, mostly to stop Eastern. Can't help but wonder what they will do. There has been rumors about bringing back FB

That was plan with the river front campus, but politics with EWU got in the way and GU has already raised the$$$. Providence started negotiating with GU earlier this year. UW decided to partner with GU for WWAMI

Eastern is trying to building a huge STEM program/building on campus which would eventually funnel a lot of kids into Wazzu's and UW's med programs, especially with both Universities expanding into Spokane's campus. Not sure about Gonzaga but their costs are so high and enrollment so low (by choice) that I'm not sure they could do anything to stop EWU.

It would funnel kids into the med programs, but it would probably have more effect on Wazzu and UW than Gonzaga. I would assume the numbers would be larger for the technology and engineering students, more of what they are targeting, than students looking to attend medical school.

Step 1 for GU: http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/blog/health-care-inc/2015/05/uw-firms-up-partnership-with-gonzaga-in-med-school.html

That is the plan...the riverfront campus facility will be Wazzu.

UW latched onto GU with the hopes of not losing ground with probable medical students on the east side.

Eastern's focus isn't on building a med school for the time being. They have a $70 million plan on a new STEM building and advanced studies for STEM, some of which would eventually filter into the UW, WSU, and Gonzaga graduate schools.

I know all of the WA public universities had a lot riding on the last legislative session, and some went their way some didn't. Regardless of who the main players are, this is good for Spokane...

The riverfront campus is a nice campus that Wazzu has really grown the last 5-10 years. A lot of Easterns business school is down there as well and its a stones throw from GU's campus. Pretty crazy.

My wife graduated from the OT program through EWU that is located on the Riverpoint Campus.

Blue Tears....weather isn't a consideration, or, at least, way down on the list of importance in the minds of the recruits and parents. School, conference, academics, coach are the topics of consideration....not weather. I went through the process with two youngsters.

Yeah, otherwise Hawaii would be the team to beat every year.

Just because weather/location didn't matter to your two kids doesn't mean it doesn't factor in to someone else. Listen, I would agree that other areas would seem to be more important than the cold, but it is still something that we don't have going for us when recruiting against many others. If we move up, I just don't think we would have the same recruiting advantage over most of the MWC schools that we enjoy now? Like I said, just my two cents.

Yet the best two MWC schools are in Boise & SLC. Their weather is identical (or worse). Sorry man, your logic doesn't fly.

Blue Tears....weather simply isn't a factor, otherwise, none of the Big Ten teams or Notre Dame would be able to recruit.

Shhhhhh!!!! You guys are ruining it for the small-minded "We're Montana, there's no way a program like us can compete at the FBS level" fans.

They have so little. Let's continue to let 'em have this mistaken belief, at least.

small-minded + "no way" ≠ fans
