What fans want and what makes sense financially are possibly two different things. Our program is currently barely in the black. A move-up adds so many more expenses. That will force the Griz to be regular body-bag games to get drilled by Pac-12 and B1G teams quite a bit. Would a possible TV contract and... some extra conference revenues off-set the added expenses of increased scholarships and added programs? It doesn't seem like it to me.
We could also ask UAB fans about how they feel about their move up? Or UMass fans. I'm sure Idaho fans love tht they've had... what... 1 or 2 winning seasons in the last 20 years? Sounds like a blast - sign me up. Texas State has 1 win so far this season against Prairie View A&M!
UAB was I-AA for 3 years, 1 year longer than they were D-III. They're as much of a "move-up" as South Alabama or UTSA. And after the program was shut down the fans rallied their support and were successful in getting it re-instated. Can't say the same for Hofstra or Northeastern
As for Texas State, this would be their first losing season since joining the Sun Belt. But if that's the benchmark you're going for, Cal Poly and Delaware are currently 2-4. Maybe they should go back to DII?

Far better to aim for 8-4 and an opportunity to meet a program of the quality of San Diego in a "playoff" game. But by far the best part of FCS and the BSC is the opportunity to play in front of 4000 on the road. Doesn't get any better than that.BWahlberg said:Not too excited about aiming for 6-6 or 7-5 and playing in some unknown bowl game.
Hmmmm. After your post, I reread the entire thread to see if I missed something. I didn't. I couldn't find a single instance of a "move-up crowd" member arguing for UM to move up. What I do read, over and over, are defensive diatrbes by the status-quo crowd when it is even suggested that there are programs that have moved up successfully. Or even not so successfully, but with no interest in returning to FCS. It amazes me how easily that crowd gets its underwear in a bind as they extrapolate simple observations to misguided arguments that UM should move up. Even when it is obvious that there is no place for UM to move up to, even if they had the fortitude, which they don't. Very threatened. Added to that is the embellishment about the perfect world we are in today. That gets challenged and deserves it. Look in the mirror.havgrizfan said:Hammer and Brint, what's the use even arguing with the move-up crowd anymore? They will never care how much it costs, how many more women's sports would have to still be added, or how inferior our facilities and financial booster base are to the Boise's and Nevada's of the world. Ironically, I see some of the same people begging for a move up are the same people calling the Griz a medicore FCS program. An also-ran in the Big Sky, a terrible football team. But somehow, those people think the Griz could do better in the friggin' Mountain West Conference???? It's a hilarious contradiction.
Sure it does...AZGrizFan said:BWahlberg said:Oh man, some day I wish we could be sun belt champions and maybe, just maybe we could play and beat the 7th place finisher of the Big 12 in the GlaxoSmithKline Bowl played ever December 19th at 11pm MST!
Beats playing 90% of the teams we play every f***[*] year.

Quit coming on to egriz with your stark reality. Your kinda attitude is just too much to take...Remember, egriz is a bubble. UM is an elite program, the run defense is excellent etc. Shame on you...

I also love the status quo crowd's insistence that we'd automatically go 3-8 or 4-7 every year. I guess we'd still have to play with 63 schollies instead of 85?
