Move to FBS - Our own study

I wouldn't want to try to sway anyone but you should get the numbers straight. The current WAC contract is not great but it is for 4 million per year. There are a guaranteed 16 football games to be broadcast with 10 on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 and the balance on ESPNU. Every school will appear at least once. There is also BCS bowl money that is coming even if no team is in the games. The SEC really get the bulk of the TV money with a 200 million dollar contract. Those that think that Boise State or Montana could not compete with that kind of cash is crazy. The big BCS conferences make their money from TV and steal the best of coaches from the rest. Put either Boise State or Montana in the SEC and after 5 years of the payout from the TV and BCS bowl games, either could recuit and steal coaches as well as any in the SEC. Why wouldn't they?

Those that believe the talent is so great in the BCS conferences should take note that Boise State had two players start in this year's NFL Pro Bowl game. How many did any Pac 10 team have?

The absolute worst nightmare for the BCS, and the the TV networks that are funding them, would be for Boise State to win the BCS championship next year and it is possible. Don't miss the VT/BSU game from Washington D.C. Labor Day. IF BSU wins that game, all games other than the Wyoming game will be on national TV. MWC has a deal with CBS and I would think that the Wyoming game will be on a national hook up also. I don't really beleive that the Broncos will have another season of winning every game but until they lose, they will draw such big viewer ratings that ABC will not be able to ignore them. If BSU were to win the BCS Championship, say goodby to the BCS and hello to a playoff. So, if you love the BCS as it is, root against the Broncos.

Funny that while DJ attacks Griz players for "frat house gang stompings" he's quick to defend his own frat who just this last spring had a few of its own (now removed I believe) members swinging samurai swords at people and Griz players.

Double standard, but that's DJ's world I guess.

It's probably better than Remax's world where things that never happened (me defending any fraternity) get me accused of bearing a double standard.

Needless to say, but I've never defended the kid that got kicked out for the sword incident, even though it wasn't any where near as violent as the gang stomping that townie got which was as described in the Kaimin and was never challenged by the athletic department. In fact, according to the Kaimin, it was an actual "street gang" stomping and that detail was never publically challenged by the athletic department either.

. . . Meanwhile, our former conference foe was proving that they actually belonged and weren't outright frauds with bloated win records thanks to cupcake scheduling policies . . .

Actually, there are Boise naysayers, and they expressly claim that Boise doesn't belong because playing in a "weak" western conference full of cupcakes allows them to put together a bloated win-loss record. Texas coach Mack Brown is in this camp. It is almost, but admittedly not quite, a carbon copy of the standard CAA-Missouri Valley Conference line of sh!t about Montana and the Big Sky Conference. I think it is crap, especially in Boise's case, because they can't get big-time ADs to return their calls. And I realize that is an important distinction between them at their level and us at our level.

Virginia Tech will thump Boise State soundly and put an end to this chatter.

There is no conclusive evidence suggesting this will happen. Boise has beaten better teams in recent memory.

No, the Kaimin article didn't say it was a street gang stomping. In fact, none of those 3 words were used in the article. The Kaimin article was incomplete, misleading and also incorrect in some respects. Trying to justify bad reporting by saying the athletic department didn't dispute the article is just plain ridiculous. The athletic department didn't say anything about the any of the Kaimin articles or editorials. However, that is not evidence that the athletic department agreed with everything in the articles.

Anybody else had a problem lately with eGriz recognizing an established password? And I hadn't even posted anything inflammatory, insulting otherwise scatalogically inclined...

One of the quoted witnesses in the article said that either Swink, TJ, or both were identifying themselves as street gang members "Bloods this, Crips that" "after THEY put the kids head on the curb and stomped it". Looks like both definitions of gang stomping fit. You must be slipping in your old age if you couldn't remember that ridiculous part.

Given that the school didn't ever deny the story's contents leads me (and everyone else with a brain) to believe that every single word in the Kaimin article was true.

No, the Kaimin article said no such thing. You are a liar. You make up almost everything you post. A "witness", who turned out to be so drunk that he wasn't actually outside at the time of the fight (according to a poster egriz), claimed that the guys were flashing gang signs. No bloods, no crips. No putting the kids head on the curb. No gang. No gang stomping.

I know what occurred. I know almost all of the parties involved, including the family of the non-player. I know most of what happened. You don't. Neither does the Kaimin. So, get out of here with your constant lying.

Your Alzheimers must have gone into full blown dementia, PR. These quotes comes straight from the article, which is also linked below. Please actually read it this time. You might want to get your brain checked out because you are either crazy or you're a flat out liar who is defending this situation (which makes you a double liar because a few posts back you said you wouldn't defend this "bad fight").

Or wait, are you trying to mince words over "kick" and "stomp"? Too funny. Get that brain checked, PR.

“He went to the ground. All three kids started kicking him. Then Swink, while Grady was knocked out and his head was on the curb, kicked him in the face.”

The only thing that I expressed to him was that after they kicked him, they thought it would be cool to do their ‘oh Compton, bloods, crips, this and that shit.’ I told Bobby that and he was livid.”

Guess what else? No one cares what some anonymous person told you six months after the fact. We have the public record which was never disputed by anyone involved.

Is this how "wimp types" "get put in their place"?

That poor townie kid got gang stomped, PR. When three people are on top of you kicking you, that's a gang stomping. Deal with it.

Wouldn't UM want to be more like Boise St.? Where would the additional money to be closer to them come from?

No. UM won't "be like" anyone else. The Griz are not followers. If there's anything I've learned in the annual beatdowns (OK, not all of the UM-Sac games have qualified as such, but the ultimate result has been the same), it's that Griz are LEADERS.

If UM does make the jump, they'll do it in their own way and come out better than anyone else who's done so. As good as Boise has been, they will end up being Montana's "biatch," not the other way around. May take about five years or so, but it will happen.

I would like to think so also, but you cant be sure. I mean one of our claim to fame is our attendance. With the move comes higher ticket prices, Montana fans are use to winners. How long will it be before the fans get impatient. I have been threw this move up thing before and it does not turn out like Boise State. The team I am referring to has only had 1 winning season in 25 years. It will be interesting to see what happens, but as the old saying goes. Be careful what you wish for.

Nope, still don't agree with you. I knew about the fight several days after it occurred. Know a number of the parties involved. No gang stomping. Bad and incomplete information gathered by the Kaimin. The additional and correct information is one of the reasons that the legal authorities were not asked to get involved. You can repeat your hater mantra all you want, but it won't make it true.

I think I know what 'tip is talking about. I think the problem I've been having too frequently is accessing eGriz in the first place. Tip assumes he's being cut off from eGriz for something he said. No, it's that all too frequently I click on the link to eGriz & I get "Waiting for eGriz," or "Connecting to eGriz," & I wait & wait until I give up. If I try again, I get a window, "Firefox cannot make a connection to the server," or words to that effect. I go elsewhere & then after a period of time, I get into eGriz, like just now. It gets pretty frustrating & it happens frequently. I have no trouble with Firefox getting into other Websites. Just eGriz. Same happened with getting into the Championship Subdivision Website, just now, which I assume runs off the same servers as eGriz.

No Silvertip, the problem is not your password or anything you said on eGriz that is cutting you off. The problem is with eGriz & its servers, & I wish Titleist or whoever, would clear this up.

And Titleist, et al., don't explain what the problem is or what you're doing to clear it up. Just acknowledge it & assure us that you're working on it. :)

It is not a server problem they are just checking your posts before you type them. for some people it goes quickly, for others there is a delay.

in this current economic meltdown moving anywhere ain't happen'n....that is unless Montana has some sugar daddy like Pickens at OSU or the Nike dude at Oregon to provide some serious support, sustaining support.

I like our situation as is, but I do agree that our conference is a tad tacky - in football terms, surely Weber feels the same when basketball is a topic of competitiveness.

NCAA will likely make some moves in the next few years and separate the haves from the rest of us. We are or will be fortuante to hold our own until the financial situation improves....
