oh good lord installing a butt ugly bright red field that you can see from the moon is not considered carrying the torch. you need another decade of success before you can start spouting off like that Junior

I guess if there is one thing Eastern fans typically hate, it's all the wonderful personalities that congregate on eGriz. I have no problem with your program or players, but you get a handful of real winners on this site.

And a handful that will call bs when bs is being served. Ewu had had a few years of success. Hardly carrying the torch Einstein. Swap out that pos stadium and win another crown then lets talk.

Rat, be honest, and I suggest you look back at MSU football history, but how many years of success do the Cats have in their long history? How many 8+ win seasons and playoff victories do they have? I think if you look at the short history that EWU has at the FCS level, it is pretty comparable to what MSU has accomplished over a much longer period.

Six or eight years ago, we were ready to leave both of them and the Big Sky Conference in the dust. Now, we are just another team. Not too many years ago, Boise State considered the Griz to be rivals....now, not.

I Don't have to go back in history. Since 2010 msu has a higher winning percentage than either ewu or um. Hardly current torch bearers for the conference so get over yourselves.

First, you missed the entire point, second, both Montana and EWU have had better success in the playoffs, and third, both Montana and EWU have a winning record against MSU since 2010. Seems they are still a step behind.

MSU, 2010 - 2014: 45 - 17
EWU, 2010 - 2014: 53 - 15

Great math, Kitty kitty.

Not sure why you think Eastern "hates you." I don't think anyone in the Eastern fan base hates Montana. We sure as hell want to beat you, but the reality is we are the two schools who typically carry the torch for the conference. I mean, do you really want to let the perception of the Big Sky to rest on Montana State's achievements?

Had Montana won yesterday, I'd have been rooting for the Griz to win this Saturday...

You are one of the Eastern guys I actually like in this board. Thanks for sticking it to little brother.

In all reality, Eastern is the one school that is closest geographically to Missoula, other than State. It is a natural rivalry in that regard alone. It stings quite a bit to be in the hole against you guys, and with the emergence of your program, it's a little like eating humble pie. Montana was great, excellent even. But if it was one team that brought us down from the heights, the one that has been a consistent thorn in our sides, it's Eastern.

That's great for you guys. It really is. Now look at it from our perspective. We have been the class of FCS for a long time. Our play-off run lasted from the Regan era to the Obama era. In 2010, you guys were instrumental in bringing that reign to an end. Every season since then, we can look back on the tough losses and your names come up as the toughest. In our house, in yours, it doesn't matter.

Now, we are beginning to understand how big a bullseye EWU puts on the Griz. Your team treats it like a rivalry (it is so much better than being "rivals" with PSU). Griz fans are too. For us, Griz/Cat will always be the bigger deal. It's in-state. It has to be. There is too much history for there not to be a rivalry there. You have turned into the Washington to our Oregon. In a sense the animosity is greater. State is still in Montana. Eastern is an outsider, a "foreigner." So, our resentment builds. Foreigners have taken up roost in the place we used to live. So we get angry. A special place is reserved in the darker parts of our hearts for Eastern.

That's football. The dislike may Ebb and flow depending on the seasons outcomes, but it will be there from here on out. This is how a rivalry is born. Again, it's football.

Good post. Let's be clear, EWU DOES consider UM our "rivalry" game every year even though it's not for UM. You have MSU and that will always be your rivalry game. We get that. PSU is a long way from being considered our rival, geographically and from a level of play, although they have been a thorn in our side.

What a great couple of posts, from each side.Damn I love it when there is a good honest to God difference of opinion back and forth without all the foul, crude, rude, 8th grade name calling.

Ooohhhhh, you meant CONFERENCE records. Sure. So we were supposed to know that's how you were spinning it when you said MSU had a "higher winning percentage". Stupid pigeon me. And of course, with as deep as the Kitties get in the playoffs every year they just help bolster the national respect the Big Sky gets. Oh wait...

I dunno if the Griz are still the top program in the conference or not.

I'll just point out that this is the only board on which cat and Ewoo fans argue with one another, and then I'll let others make up their own mind.

the only thing dimmer than that torch you carry is your intellect. I wish I could say the same for that butt ugly field and facilities of yours

Makes sense, since it's the best of the three boards to discuss FCS football. Not going to deny that. Oh, your stadium is the best, too. No problem stating either...

Ouch, so hurtful!

Who you picking in the quarter finals, Rat?

UM v EWU is a rivalry.

I don't think they will be the biggest rival down the road however, I don't know if they will be able to maintain this level of play after Baldwin, Adams, and Kupp move on, I guess time will tell but I have a feeling 5 years down the road almost everybody will have MSU as their biggest nemesis again.

Indeed, time will tell whether Eastern can maintain and Montana can regain (see what I did there?) but the perception that a successful level of play is a recent occurrence and solely due to the current roster and coaching staff isn't accurate. The Eagles are in the playoffs for the 11th time, including their eighth time in the last 11 seasons since 2004. Only top-seeded New Hampshire and Montana – making its record 22nd appearance in the FCS Playoffs -- can also stake claim to that accomplishment. While certainly not as well resourced or celebrated as the Montana programs, EWU has sustained its program quite well despite being virtually ignored by the powers that be and media within the state of Washington and should continue on this track.

As for who is your bigger rival? That's most definitely your question to answer but within conference, you'll always be our rival.

This is a touching thread. As much as I hate EWU. Good luck the rest of the way. Whatever it takes to get rid of the Bizon
