More than any team, Eastern has had the most success over UM and now has 4-straight wins over the Griz. It's clear to see that Eastern views Montana as it's biggest rival, and they see this game as more than just another game. They hate us and want to beat us every single time. So my question is do you believe the Griz see EWU as just another game or are they starting to view it as big of a rivalry game as what MSU is? I definitely view them as a big rival, and don't want to lose to those guys ever again.

Agreed. Seriously hope we can figure them out. I'd like to give Adams his one and only loss against the Griz next year.
 
NOT, MSU will always be the bigger rival. Old-timers will say Idaho, so maybe the new generation will think EWU.....but rivalries are about more than football. But we are each allowed our opinions.

I think you can speak for most fans, the way we lose games to them bugs the shit out of me...onside kicks, blocked punts recovered inside the one, obvious TD's not called, deflected passes...we are snakebit against those guys.

I don't think they will be the biggest rival down the road however, I don't know if they will be able to maintain this level of play after Baldwin, Adams, and Kupp move on, I guess time will tell but I have a feeling 5 years down the road almost everybody will have MSU as their biggest nemesis again.
 
Interesting logic....lots of Griz fans on here would say MSU isn't a rivalry because they never win. We've lost 5 of 6 to EWU, including 4 straight. Perhaps we're getting a sense of what MSU feels when playing us?

Not sure why you think Eastern "hates you." I don't think anyone in the Eastern fan base hates Montana. We sure as hell want to beat you, but the reality is we are the two schools who typically carry the torch for the conference. I mean, do you really want to let the perception of the Big Sky to rest on Montana State's achievements?

Had Montana won yesterday, I'd have been rooting for the Griz to win this Saturday...
 
I say who gives a shit. Don't pay such homage. Until they put more than a plumber's salary into their facilities, I will acknowledge nothing, other than they won a football game against vastly inferior coaching.

I guess if there is one thing Eastern fans typically hate, it's all the wonderful personalities that congregate on eGriz. I have no problem with your program or players, but you get a handful of real winners on this site.

And a handful that will call bs when bs is being served. Ewu had had a few years of success. Hardly carrying the torch Einstein. Swap out that pos stadium and win another crown then lets talk.
 
Our big rival is msu and will stay that way forever! EWU has had very good success against us as we have had our rape issues and had to insert a old retired coach the last three years and that alone caused us some serious problems. I like Mick and he did the best job he could.

We begin a new period with a new coach and EWU will be another team we want to beat. Hells fire I hated to go over to roos field when Kramer was the coach and he sometimes had his way with us way back. Naw it will be msu forever. We did beat the snot out of msu this year so in my mind we won the state!

Good post. The UM/MSU rivalry will always be strong but will it be relevant? For the Griz, beating MSU has become like the Globe Trotters beating the Washington Generals. It's just kind of expected. It's kind of like Kansas/ Kansas State or some other in state rivalry that has lost it's luster. The problem for Griz fans is when they think beating MSU means something...
The game is just not a resume booster anymore. Just look at how many Griz fans last week thought that the big win against the Cats was the evidence they needed to expect the Griz to roll into Cheney and dominate Eastern.....
 
MSU is still the #1 rival. EWU is definitely not just another game, but that doesn't mean that they have taken over MSU as our rival. The UM-MSU rivalry stretches back over 100 years. EWU has only become a good team in the last 10 or so.
