Mountain West?

Yep. This fascination with "market size" is comical. El Paso is 675,000 people. There's not 15,000 there that give two shits about UTEP. After their season opener this year (drew 31,000), their highest attended game at home was 16,000 for the UNM game. Most of the others were under 10,000. But these conferences get enamored with the "size of the TV market"...I can assure you there weren't many more watching the game on TV.
The reason they are enamored is because the "size" sets the market rate. The reason as HHB mentioned they are getting attention is because the numbers "ratings" get you renewals and this has been the major gap in selling small market teams vs. major market teams. More advertisers are now using these metrics as data gets better and they can justify the spend... a really good thing for the Montana schools.

Wanted to make sure people understand that UC Davis gets first consideration, but that doesn't mean they have to take them over any other FCS school.

Is there a world where that happens?

I don't know, it's unlikely so probably not, but that's exactly how the contract was written. They could tell Davis to pound sand and instead take the MonDak schools, if they wanted to.

STOP!!! This thread is just a clever distraction to stop us from talking about all the things wrong with the Griz. Before we know it, we'll have a 17 page move up thread and we will have completely forgotten about the two losses to the scats, making this the most disappointing #3 ranked 13-2 team in the history of Montana football.

Dear god please let this be true and finally materialize into something. If we don’t ever play another conference game in Greeley or at a high school in Portland it will be too soon.
It won’t materialize before 2027 and we should be playing in Greeley that season because we didn’t in 2025 and aren’t in 2026.

As much whining as goes on here it will be interesting going to the Mountain West where realistic success would be 7-5 or 6-6 and a birth in some obscure bowl. And there could be a half empty WaGriz on a Friday night game. I’m not saying I’m 100% against it but those will be the realities of it. Home games vs new rivals like Wyoming, Utah St and Colorado State would be great fun though.

We can do better than 7-5 as a ceiling in the Mountain West but those types of seasons are probably going to happen more often than in the Big Sky

Move up threads and fire Bobby threads are the two thread topics discussed ad nauseum on this board and have never changed a single persons opinion, lol.
I happen to see an article recently about people wanting Wyoming to drop down to FCS. I think the article has some inaccurate statements especially about the Montana Schools, so take it what you will, but there is some interesting information for both sides of the argument.
This quote is from Wyoming's AD - "Right now, we’re getting $3.5 million in media dollars today"
So that quote can put to bed speculation on the MW's media package.
It also quotes the AD saying they got $1.7M for playing at Texas. So in theory, there is more money to get your ass kicked in the MW than if you are FCS.
There are also so dumb statements in the article. For example, saying Wyoming played on national TV 12 times this last year. They are counting services like the Big10 Network. So it is really 12 times? Montana played on ESPN2 twice, and ABC twice. How many Wyoming games were on ESPN, 2, or ABC? Point is I think top FCS schools get some decent national exposure these days.
But that said, the 2.8M viewers for the Super Brawl had to draw some attention. That is an amazing number. Highest rated FCS game of all time (don't know if the natty passed that).
Anyways, lets carry on the debate and change nobodies mind!

Quick question for those in the know: What are the added expenses of being FBS? I'm not talking about the amount lower FBS teams spend versus what we spend. I'm asking what the additional required expenses would be if we were POOF, FBS tomorrow. Anyone know?

A lot of additional scholarships for one.
