If this was the first game of the year between the scats and Griz in Bozoland, then I would not be very confident. However, this is the second game within a month after the Griz were not only beaten but debased on their home turf by the Cat secondary players. There's a certain video playing on infiinite loop on every TV in the Champions Center and on every tv in the athletics area. I've been in the belly of the beast when revenge is top of mind and it sharpens the SPEAR and focuses the mind. The coaches and players will be locked in all week long. Go Griz!! Beat the Cats!

I feel more confident in the team's ability to beat the cats but that comes with a caveat. The Griz are just plain terrible on the road in the playoffs. They are 1 and 13 on the road if you don't count the championship game at Marshall in 1995. In games leading up the Natty the only time that the Griz have won a road game was in 2008 at James Madison. So I think that the Griz are playing their best ball at the best time of the year and that they are way better positioned for a win than 3.5 weeks ago. It's just the road record in the playoffs that worries me and they be playing in what will be the most hostile environment that a Griz team in the playoffs has ever faced. Illinois State already has 3 road wins this year so perhaps the Griz can keep that narrative going. More confident than before and I hope that translates into a victory.

Show me a team that’s got a glowing road record in the playoffs.

I’ll wait.

Are you implying the griz are better than the cats?
The Griz are definitely better than Cats. Don't get me wrong, the Cats are a good team but the first time they beat the Griz was because they got lucky. The one play everyone loves to talk about as the turning point which was the pick 6. Wortham running a slant to the left and being trailed by a defender who had his hands on him and it bounced off Worthams hands into Dowler. If Wortham catches that ball, Dowler is completely out of position but in a perfect position to catch a lucky tip. But sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. And that's exactly what it was, they got lucky and it happens. But the fact of the matter is Ah Yat was dealing in that game and completed 82% of his passes, threw 1 TD and ran for another. The Bobcats couldn't stop the Griz offense. Besides the pick, the Griz get a FG blocked for the first time since I can't remember. But that's the way it goes sometimes but nothing the Cats did showed me the Cats were better. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Griz fan. Also take a look at the SFA game where Dowler gets another pick. He's beat and out of position and in a perfect place for a tipped pass. Both times Dowler is beat but because he intercepts a tipped ball, people think he played it perfectly. I actually hope he continues to do what he's been doing because if the play goes like it's supposed to then there's no pick but a TD for us.

Idk...I've been told by people who talk to the coaches that they've got a whole new scheme for playing MSU.
Damn, cat is out of the bag. We are going to line up a linebacker and come out in a diamond formation with 3 guys in the backfield behind KAY. We will proceed to have him run off tackle and get absolutely blown up by your linebacker. Shoot, I just remembered we saw that before in a cat griz game, but it was Sixx who spent the week scheming that up in ‘21. Guess we better try that fake FG that results in a kick block Sixx. Oh he tried that already too. Maybe we should plan for a fake field goal punt for a touchback. Damn, he took that too! Guess we are SOL boys.

I'm not going to argue much because I think UM is good, and has a solid chance at winning, but can we at least acknowledge that KAY had a high completion percentage because he didn't throw the ball downfield? He averaged under 6 yards per attempt, and almost everything was a quick throw to the perimeter. Now, I expect that to change for this game because MSU has shown some susceptibility to balls thrown in the MOF of late, and I'd be shocked if UM didn't take advantage of that, but balls thrown further down the field are generally completed at a lower percentage.

Good post. And the Griz players and coaches will have learned their mistakes. And Loud back. And griz rolling in past 2 games.

Two high safeties cherry picking creates “take what they give you.” All Dowler really does is wait for tipped or over thrown balls. The key match up for us on offense will be Pantiloff and Eiden. KAY’S blind side protection is essential. The who’s better argument- pretty even and will come down to game planning and execution. As always the refs play a part as well. My primary concern is will Montana weather the early “commotion.” Bobby has had a difficult time having his players ready from the get go in bozo. If they can stay in this thing early expect a dog fight!

I don't think we have to worry about anybody not being ready. More than the rivalry, this is the semifinal game. Winner likely wins the chipper. Everybody from both sides knows it. There's going to be pressure on everybody. Can't wait!

I'm far more confident about Saturday's game than I was for the game a month ago, for many reasons:

The bye: Simply cannot overstate how desperately needed that week off was.

Loud's return: Obviously getting your best defensive player back would help any team. But he is so critically important to the style of defense the GRIZ play, and I'd say they are automatically 7 points better with him in the lineup.

The way both teams have looked in the playoffs: Look, I know the cats are trying to hype up the teams they played, but please. We're talking about the 2nd place team in the Ivys (Ivys!!); and a team in SFA who quite literally could not catch a forward pass. And the cats looked mostly discombobulated and unmotivated in each. Meanwhile, the GRIZ absolutely boatraced two MoValley teams who began the year ranked in the top 3, and would have remained there but for injuries to guys who were all back for the playoffs.

Intangibles: I have to think Sixx openly looking for other jobs has impacted the buy-in in the locker room, and when you throw the Davis thing ("I respect, he respects, all respect") into the mix, there is something clearly wrong with the cat program. Meanwhile, the GRIZ are playing their best ball of the year at the right time.
I sort of thought the same thing.

I've actually had a handful tell me that privately. They won't say so publicly, but many of them are nervous about the way the GRIZ are playing.
Of course they are nervous and are not confident in the outcome of the game. The fact that you're not says everything about the delusional thoughts of the different fan bases.
