Troy’s former Dillon beaver teammate and UM Western great Jason Ferris is on the roster of the Birmingham Stallions of the usfl. He plays linebacker also and the only NAIA guy on their roster. He led the Beavers to a state title his senior year. Troy was a sophomore on that team. Impressive for a small school like Dillon to have 2 guys playing pro ball.

Most NFL players do. Honestly if he plays a step below Ray Lewis in any game some folks on this forum will rip him. He is probably the best Montana raised kid to enter the NFL draft ever. We should all cheer for him even if he made one unfortunate decision as a senior to become a Cat.

I watched Stenerud play at MSU. My eventual brother-in-law, who was on the MSU ski team, was one of the people who picked up Stenerud at the Bozeman airport when he first arrived in Bozeman.

In the below video, Stenerud said, when Coach Jim Sweeney asked him to kick a few balls, he made 4 FG's in a row from 70 yards. Later, he kicked his 59 yard FG against the Griz. The longest kick in college or NFL history at the time. He played 19 years in the NFL. He is very articulate.

But his parents chose to raise him in Montana, so you have to root for him and use as much hyperbole as possible. Freakish is a good one. Crazy agile. Sick Bergen torchability. Best Montana football player ever. Ever. NFL careers don’t matter unless he has a good one. Basically, the main factors are the ones he can demonstrate.

And so far being a 1st team Big Sky QB and two years later defensive player of the year would be demonstrating for sure. As would running a 40 faster than all those Bama and Georgia LB's. He will have a good NFL career (if healthy like every other player being drafted) in my opinion. So I stand by my ever. We will all see though.

If he never plays a down in the NFL, we will focus on the things you posted in support of the “best ever” talk. If he has an all-pro NFL career, we will focus more on that. Either way, he’s the best ever. I just have to wait and see what matters most in making that determination.

the nfl offensive mvp, as well as super bowl mvp, blasted out a 4.62 40, which is very slow for his position, much slower than those bama and georgia guys. he later said something like running the 40 like that doesn't happen in actual football. go figure, maybe that glorious time isn't so important?

I think his college career was pretty exceptional when you consider his accomplishments on offense and defense. I guess the rest we will be able to evaluate in 3-5 years. I think he is going to be a very good NFL player. I guess we all will see.

Poor kid. Imagine how high he would have been drafted if the bubcats didn’t run him into the ground like a Government mule, and instead developed him into a real linebacker for 6 years straight. He should have went to linebacker-U; we would not have abused him and wasted his talent. I think he should sue MSC for the difference in lost opportunity costs. That dirty Mr. Chode-face had one thing in mind and it was certainly not player development. Poor kid had to beg to be moved to his natural position.
