I'm starting to warm up to your humor. It took a while....CDAGRIZ said:GRIZ PHAN said:And Tammy Wynette taught spelling (D-I-V-O-R-C-E) at the country school.
Ol’ Tam was a great teacher. I still can’t get over carrying a lunch box for not one, not two, but eight (8) years. No way a kid could ever be tough enough to accomplish that feat these days. Non-country schoolers these days just text each other iPad lunches from their watches. They need to pull up their pants and learn some manners because I tell you there’s trouble. Right here in River City. Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for Pants.
poorgriz said:Jesus. Bringing your lunchbox to school? You guys are definitely showing toughness with the pasties, egg and tuna salad sammiches, albeit a privileged toughness. Where I come from, it was puching hot lunch cards and choking down salisbury steak and all of the other crap dishes like the rest of the poor kids. Of course Fridays were always special, once in awhile you'd get something normal like bbq pork sammiches or lasagna. Also got a free upgrade to chocolate milk once in awhile.

We couldn’t afford hot lunches. 10 kids and all that.

You guys got lunches? Spoiled. We ate rocks and sticks.

Then eating 1but not both of their baloney sandwiches. Getting off the bus all eyes are on that lunchbox with the second sandwich and applesauce.CDAGRIZ said:I have to disagree with AZ above. I personally prefer players who care very little about their appearance. Ear buds on the bus? You should be in full pads, chinstrap, fastened, and studying the playpamphlet.

What we COULDN’T afford was tuna fish or mayonnaise. So I got PBJ every day, and a (rich) girl in my class got tuna every day, and she HATED tuna but loved PBJ. We swapped.![]()

The rich kids in my school got pinecones with peanut butter. PB was a delicacy that these lips never tasted. It was Western White Pine branches with a nice side of pure Idaho galena. Looking back, it probably wasn't very healthy to eat lead ore, but like the Scotsmen say: truck bumper or zipper, it's all brown dogs when crescent wrench.

in Butte America you would likely see or hear "Pasty" served before bologna.

I don’t believe you. EVERYTHING else up to this point I believed. But not this.

Pasties are one of the most overrated dishes ever. They are dry, and have no flavor.
