Montana vs Weber State Big Sky Championship Game 7 MTN

Criswell was a Holst recruit, but you are right, Kennedy did put together a good group of kids. In my opinion he just didnt know how to coach from the heart. Gut check stuff.

Criswell was a walk on for Holst, Kennedy gave him his scholarship.

Criswell walked on for Holst and Holst promised him a scholarship after his redshirt year. Kevin had his scholarship before Kennedy got there.

I've heard Sampson say one of the last things they did in that office was get Kevin's scholarship lined up.

Thanks MGR, I thought I heard it was the first thing Kennedy did, but I wasn't for sure, and it sounds like you know for sure, so I will retract my statement.

BTW I wasn't trying to slam Holst, just give Kennedy some credit for getting a team together that could win.

Kennedy is a great recruiter. He did a good job of bringing in quite a bit of talent that Montana probably wouldn't have gotten. Unfortunately, I don't think his heart is in coaching anymore, but since its all he knows how to do, he might as well keep doing it.

To answer a previous post, both Corey Easley and Chris McKay were Holst recruits along with Criswell as a walk-on. What a great win tonight for the guys, wherever they end up playing I'll be there. Anybody else plan on making the trip? Could be Charlotte, Indianapolis, maybe somewhere else? I'm just so happy for the team, only one of 5 teams now in Griz history to make it to the dance....very special company. These are the memories they will be telling their kids about someday.

Will they be telling their kids how in the first round they were pumelled out of existence?

Some legacy!

Thanks Terry, MR and esp :o :o Barn Ball :o :o

I was at wine tasting 2nite, and called a friend and listened to him tell me the last 38 seconds. WTG GRIZ!!!!!!

I don't care what happens to us from here, bring on Illinois, N. Carolina, whoever, what a GREAT FINISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny thing was 2nite my parents were at the tasting as well, and my dad wanted to leave by 8:00, well they left right as I was on the phone hearing that the Griz won by two, funny stuff.

Thanks for the great finish Griz!

Puzzled-What's up with all the negativity bro?? This team far exceeded the expectations of most of even the most optimistic fans. This team was coming off of a couple of very disappointing seasons, had a new coach, and waning fan support, but still managed to do something only 4 (or is it 5?) other Griz teams in history have done. I think most would say that is a pretty damn good feat. While it is every team's goal to make it as far as possible in the NCAA, it is unrealistic to expect a Big Sky team to upset a 1 or 2 seed such as Illinois. While it is not impossible, as Weber proved in beating North Carolina a few seasons back, currently the Big Sky to recruit the talent level that it takes to beat elite teams. Winning conference tourneys, to a certain extent, assists in your task of building a successful program, both from an image and recruiting standpoint.

I don't care if we get blown out by 30 in the first round, Krysko still has this team heading in the right direction and has created an air of positivity
around this program that has been missing for a long time.

puzzled...
I'm puzzled. In another post, you referred to gonzaga as being an up and coming program in a better conference (or something to that extent), wasn't it just five years ago or so that no one outside of the northwest had heard anything about gonzaga. It took a showing in the NCAA's (where no one expected them to do anything) to get people's interest in the school and basketball program. They're still in a conference, correct me if i'm wrong, whose top competition is Pepperdine (where i've attended so i can bash) and Santa Clara (who lowered themselves to play a Big Sky team-Montana nonetheless, yes thats sarcasm). Basically, my point is that the exposure is good for Montana, good for the basketball program, and good for the Big Sky.
Personally, I'm looking forward to our matchup where we'll probably get killed by 35, but this was the goal of the griz bball team this year, what else can you ask for? And maybe, we could pull a gonzaga at the tournament, you never know. Judge at the end of the season, we've got another game to play.

Christo, your avatar just breeds confidence! in the program - get serious! Looks more like an exit sign of the same type the Griz will be wearing after game one in the dance.

I don't know which game you saw against Weber State, but the victor could just as easily have been the Wildcats and Montana clearly showed me they really didn't care during that first half! Krisko pointed out to them at halftime that with a little bit of effort it could go differently. Against any opponent in the dance, they play that way and they can look forward to an early exit!

I'd more like to see some Montana exposure in a tournament of credibility by credible teams.

I am not bubbling over with enthusiasm, because I don't see a team that is anxious enough to go beyond game one! Winning the Big Sky is not enough for me!

Yeah, I guess the Griz should have just tanked the championship game so they wouldn't embarrass you. What was the team thinking.
