Montana vs reno game thread

Nevadas capacity is over 11 thousand something, so half-full can still put some butts in the seats.

Come on Griz, let's get the W.

Seating: 11,536-person theater seating area in an oval configuration.

We looked good in 1st half looked horrible in second. Two different teams. This sucks we should not lose this game period, let alone by 20!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody know of a 6'3" 2guard that can get his own shot whenever he nedds to? :thumb: we sure could use somebody to take some of the load off qvale.

This is the kind of inconsistency a team with so many new faces will have. I have posted it several times. This year will be a rollercoaster through december. I am not surprised by one good half and one bad half. I am sure Tinkle will say something similar.

I agree with you mtgrizrule, but to lose that bad to a team thats in the same boat as us is tough to take! I saw good things, but again, alot of the same mistakes we have made in the past. Our leaders have to step up and be better, Qvale was great, but Cherry needs to stay out of foul trouble and make free throws, and Selvig needs to take better shots and not turn the ball over 6 times to 0 assists.

I agree with Kenna. If we had played a veteran-laden team, I wouldn't feel quite so bad with the Griz's inconsistency. But from the 17 minute mark of the first half, Montana played very poor basketball.

I went to the game and all I can say is Wow. I counted 10 Griz fans in the entire building. The Griz cam out strong and had Nevada on their heals. They were 10 up and Nevada was coming on hard. The best shooters stayed on the bench for the Griz. The 2nd half Cherry was not hitting anything from anywhere. and played little in the first but a lot in the 2nd. Jamar is a stud and was solid the first half, but Cherry did not pass the ball around and Jamar went away. The Griz could have beat Nevada, but they allowed the crowd to get in to it and let Nevada build.

Oh well. GO GRIZ !

Totals 200 25-50 21-29 29 24 16 81

Halftime score: Montana 34, Nevada 32.

3-point goals: UM 4-15 (Stockton 2-3, Selvig 1-2, Jamar 1-3, Steward 0-1, Cherry 0-3, Wood 0-3). Nevada 10-19 (Story 4-7, Burton 3-4, Burris 1-1, Conner 1-1, Panzer 1-2, Evans 0-1, Finn 0-1, Fuetsch 0-2).

Turnovers: UM 15 (Selvig 6), Nevada 10 (Elliott 2).

Blocked shots: UM 1 (Qvale), Nevada 4 (Burton 2).

Steals: UM 6 (Qvale 2), Nevada 5 (Burton 2, Story 2).

Officials: Vern Harris, Jimmy Casas, D.G. Nelson.

Attendance: 4,408.

Tinkle said in the Missoulian that UM played horribly defensively. But scoreing just 66 points seems more like they played horribly offensively. UM shot just 39% from the floor, 64% from the FREE THROW line, and a poor 27% from 3-pt range, with 15 turnovers.

Need to improve:

Cherry shot 29% from the floor, 44% from FREE THROW line, and was 0-3 from 3 pt-line
Wood was 0-4 from the field for 0%
Selvig shot 29% from the field
Steward shot 29% from the field
Hutchinson shot 0% from the CHARITY stripe

Cherry is 4 for 17 from the FREE THROW line so far (0-8 and 4-9). That's 24%!!! Can we get a crippled 90 year old from the bleachers to shoot for him? That's a light-hearted joke folks. But none-the-less that is not acceptable.

Thatta boys:

Wood 2-2 FREE THROWS
Selvig 11 Rebounds
Qvale 54% from the field (7-13) and 6-6 on FREE TROWS 100% and 2 steals
Steward 4-6 Free Throws (not too bad - 67%)
Adams 1-1 from field 100%
Stockton 2 for 3 from 3 pt-line
Ward 2-2 from Free Throw line 100%

Other guys better step up in the coming months as everyone will be keying on qvale. He's going to get a lot of FT practice, though, so it's good to see he is 100% from the line.

Now maybe some of you understand why I said it would take 12 games for these guys to get some consistent play. I am not worried. Playing better teams is how to do it, not playing Simon Fraser all the time.
