They also need to find someone outside of Will and Jamaar that can score.

What was Deshields doing in the 2nd half?

He did hit a few, but down the stretch, they had nothing....Will and Jamaar are carrying the team, and if they are not scoring, the Griz struggle to put up points. UND has 5 guys in double figures, very balanced.

Wow, Griz pissed this one away!

Overtime went back to man defense and they ate us alive...Selvig and Stockton looked lost and really provided absolutely nothing to the cause except poor decisions, bad shooting and terrible defense. Selvig fouls out with 4 points, all FTs I believe. He still thinks he is a guard and we don't need him to be a guard, we need him to be a 7 footer with presence in the key on both ends of the floor.

Cherry, Jamar and the younger guys were, at times, fantastic! If we can get someone, anyone, to be a big in the middle, we will be tough to beat. But, we don't have that right now...

Can't let the opponent shoot damn near 60 free throws and expect to win... :?

Selvig is not a guy that just hangs around under the hoop. Not his game and never has been. Sure Selvig will occasionally, but if you want him to be down under the hoop at all times you will be dissapointed (and probably have been for the last 3 years). Moreover, I bet you will be kissing Selvig's ass when he gets into game shape again and starts hitting 3's and mid-range jumpers.......Did anyone learn from the Hasquet's days???
The Griz had an off night, and should have put it away.....oh well, this happens in college basketball.

Give Reader time.........Once the guy can stay out of early foul trouble he will be our anchor under the hoop.

The Griz need to find consistency from more guys if they want to make a run in conference. Tonight, Selvig had a horrible game. Stockton was a turnover and foul machine. He also constantly gets beat on defense. Jordan Wood did nothing as usual. I really don't see how Stockton, Wood, or Hutchison deserve to see continued playing time. Mathias also did not show up tonight. Art Steward also struggled although this has not been typical of him. Art also is asked to play a lot of post due to our weakness at this position. He is a battler but really small to have to play inside. I think Derek will come back from his injury and regain his effectivemess. However, right now, the Griz are relying way too much on Will and Kareem to carry the load. They need to get some help from the posts, and with the exception of Reader, post play tonight was crappy. Keron had a heck of a game and earned more playing time. I really like his outside shot. The foul called on him at the end of regulation was a real bailout call by a crappy officiating crew. Keron got the ball cleanly. Fifty-six free throws by ND?? Really/ :?

Only if Tinkle explains to him he gets one dripple, maybe two. He's a good player, but he's not a guard. It's easy to pick the pocket when your bouncing it five feet.

56 free throws. Wow. NCAA record is 59 I believe (Baylor vs Texas A&M). It was a 5 OT game though that ended with both teams over 100 points.

I realize the Griz shot 31 FTs too....maybe the refs should've put away the whistle a bit? That call with 2 seconds left on Keron was pure bullshit. The replay clearly showed he swiped the ball, and did not get arm at all.

Oh well, the Griz had several chances to put the game away and just didn't. The post play was atrocious tonight. Reader played pretty well, but didn't seem to get in at all in the last several minutes of the game.

Take Reader out of the post numbers and you end up with our posts going:

1-13 FG, 0-4 3pt, 1-2 FT, 7 OReb, 4 DReb, 11Total Rebounds, 10 Fouls, 7pts, 4assists, 6turnovers, 0 blocks, 2 steals, 58 minutes.

We can't have 4 of our post players shoot 1-13, and only grab 4 defensive rebounds, and get 7 points in 58 minutes combined and expect to win much....

Cherry and Jamar each had more defensive rebounds than 4 of our posts combined. I realize they are very good rebounders for guards, but seriously? If you are above 6-5 you should be able to grab a couple defensive rebounds at least....

Very disappointing game for our posts in my opinion. It's still early in the season though, so there's lots of time for Tinkle to whip everyone into shape and get this team playing the way they are capable of.

Everytime I watch the Griz play an away game I am struck by this fact: we never have a home court advantage with fouls and officiating and every other team in America does. Why the heck don't we get 35 free throws and the other team get 24? Don't tell me it's because we don't draw them either. We never did with Qvale here and he got hammered night in and night out.

These guys must have just started playing the game of basketball yesterday, man: Griz 33 fouls to UND's 24. North Dakota 37 - 56 at the Free Throw line. Griz 21 - 31. 57 total fouls and 87 free throws in the game. Wow!!! Did anyone get a chance to even dribble the ball?

I got news for ya. If we can't beat NORTH DAKOTA at home, it could be a very long season. As I stated last season, our lack of quality inside players will kill us. Selvig in NOT an inside player, and can not rebound. He is strictly a one-dimentional 3-point shooter. Take that away from him with good defense, and is disappears out there.

I wanted to stop by and say thanks for coming to play us. I was at the game last night. Maybe it wasn't always pretty for either team but it was wildly entertaining game at bare minimum. We were just fortunate to come out on top. This is a big win for us but I hope we don't get too full of ourselves because it's just that-- 1 game. I know & I certainly realize that you guys are still one of the stand out teams in the Big Sky and that a team like ours will try to measure ourselves against you year in and year out in the Big Sky.

About the game- I thought when you played us man in the 1st half our guards really took advantage by driving the ball. That zone in the 2nd half really allowed Cherry & Jamar (who are absolutely tremendous players btw) to really use their reach and athleticism to cause us problems. One quick respectful point in regards to the fouls and the foul shot disparity brought up by one of your posters. With a minute 40 left in the overtime to the finish I counted 9 fouls- I will have to check the play-by-play on the box score so I could be off one either way.- (Montana was behind so it would stand to reason) But that's 9 additional fouls there and 18 foul shots. So I think that stat may somewhat misleading if it was being used as a "we got homered" kind of argument--not saying it was--just saying if.

Again, you guys have a great team and I hope you have a great season. We hope we have one too - and I'm sure that we all hope that our respective teams improve moving forward from this one, and I look forward to many future meetings between the 2 schools. Have a Happy & Safe Holiday Weekend.

Wait......Where do you think the game was played?

Why don't you ever post with a positive thing to say?? That is not being "objective". Objectivity involves balance. I have never heard a optimistic comment except your "Growler is happy" on the football board. You are more subjective than anything. Sounds like you are a typical and predictable pessimist. I will give you this, you are a stubborn old crotchety consistent turd.

I can understand frustrations regarding a specific player. Staudacher chapped my ass due to the copious amounts of PT he received, and it was so easy to take him out of a game. I just don't agree with you regarding Selvig.

Games like this happen in college hoops, and its not like we got blown out.

Yes Selvig can rebound......He may not be able to get the boards like our bigs in the past, but his length alone can account for many that you wont see in the box score. Once again, he creates defensive mismatches every game he plays in. Give this team time. If we are still fouling in an abundant fashion and getting out rebounded 4 games into conference then it is a big red flag.

Selvig has been doing this for 3 years, and going on his 4th year. Why are people suddenly jumping his ass now??? I know he can look like a hot mess dribbling and driving to the lane, but its no worse than when Mathias Ward "posts up". In addition, most of Selvig's assists come on his drives, so they may not look pretty initially, but usually end well with a nice assist.

Yeah, you obviously follow the Griz BB program closely and should be the one throwing your words of wisdom around when you didn't watch the game, nor do you even know where the game was played.

Selvig had a shitty game, there's no doubt about that. He looked pretty good in his first game back @San Diego though (Yeah, that was played @San Diego btw, not in Montana, just in case you were wondering).

None of our posts, with the exception of Reader had good games against UND. Reader only played 19 minutes and got 8 points and 9 rebounds. Unfortunately he got into some foul trouble though, and then seemed to get lost on the bench.

I don't think any of us were happy with the post play for this game, but as I said in a previous post, there is still plenty of time for Tinkle to get things straightened out. I'm confident he'll get things figured out in the post. I personally hope we see more of Reader in there..maybe start him at the 5 and Selvig at the 4. Hopefully Reader can keep the fouling under control though, since that I think has been the main thing that's kept him from getting more minutes.

Once Selvig shakes the rust off and starts playing like we know he's capable of, that'll make our other posts even better and I think we'll start to see one of them emerge as yet another great post player for the Griz (My guess would be Reader at this point).

I would be thrilled if what you say about Selvig was actually the case. However, we have been hearing that same spiel for 3 years now and still waiting for his game to emerge. So, he played well in San Diego? That is not hard to do as they are just now beginning to put it together. I would like nothing better than to see Selvig be a power player but his inability to dribble (height problem), propensity to injury, sporadic shooting, and inattention at times, is more negative than positive and UM actually is a slightly better team when he is not there..One good thing is his size can look imposing to the other teams....But, I am afraid this is going to be yet another ho hum season. I thought UM had finally reached top tier status or close to it this year with such superlative guards...maybe, they can gel against Long Beach....it is their one big chance to step up and not just step aside for Weber, Eastern, and MSU, Sacto. A very surprising season so far....

You're exactly right! These Selvig lovers obviously don't know sh*t about basketball. Selvig frustrates me more than any Griz BB player I have ever seen. If you look -up the phrase "one-dimensional", his picture will be there! Griz fans get a woody when he has his occasional 20-point outburst done strictly on 3-point shots. He lives and dies by the 3. He can't (or won't) rebound. He is a very poor defender, and his constant penchant for thinking he is a point guard makes me wanna hurl! He has "turnover" written all over him!

The team plays much better with him riding the pines.

Seriously, you are still talking? You don't even watch the games, nor do you even know where they are played half the time. These "Selvig lovers" as you call them know a hell of a lot more about basketball than you do. And unlike you they also actually follow the team and know when and where the games are being played. You just sit back with your thumb up your ass flinging turds of doom everywhere until one finally sticks.

I'm not exactly thrilled with how things have been going for our post players either, but I'd still put more stock in pretty much everyone's opinion on this message board when it comes to Griz basketball than I would yours, since you just pretend to follow them so you have something else to bitch and moan about....
