Montana receives commit from San Clamente (CA) LB

I've been excited about Herbert ever since it was posted that Montana was after him and I learned about his freakish numbers and saw his highlights. He continues to astound me and is definitely one of the recruits I've been most excited about in the last few years. I'm certain we will see even better numbers from him as the track season goes on. He has numbers I would be over the moon to see in a receiver, running back, or corner and he is a freaking linebacker. If he can put on 20 more pounds and keep his speed and explosiveness there is no stopping him!

The fast times in Montana were run by guys like Wilson, Steve Heberly, Tuff Harris, and Tyzer Cady who were much lighter and slimmer than this kid. Sounds like he might be coming in as one of our fastest if not our fastest player on the team. Waching his highlight video, it looks like he could be a terror in blitz packages.
Just for a comparison, Taylor Mays of O'Dea High School in Seattle, then later an All American safety with USC and now with the Cincinnati Bengals, won the 100 and 200 M State Championships. At age 17, I think he was about 6'3" and 225. His best 100 time that I could find for him in high school is 10.88. I watched him run once and was amazed that a guy that big could motor so quickly. Gamboa isn't much smaller and is apparently faster. Boy oh boy, I'm anxious for Herbert to get to Missoula.

Just checked Dyestat. He has the country's 10th fastest time in the 100 this year so far. I think I'd give the 10th fastest guy in the country a shot to make our team. Hahaha...
Thetruth, I understand what you're saying. Chris Wilson of the Bobcats is a good example of a kid who was extremely fast but didn't pan out as a football player. Wilson was never real dominant even at the high school level. Looking at Gamboa's tapes, you can see that this kid is a football player. I'm excited about his potential.

Imagine that kind speed/size being a special teams gunner. He could out run some of the punts, if he gets a clean break off the line of scrimmage. It will be interesting to see how the GRIZ use this kind of athlete. :thumb:
I don't for the life of me see how we keep Mr. Gamboa off the field this season.
