Montana receives commit from San Clamente (CA) LB

He's received plenty of interest, but not serious interest. Washington, Utah State, Nevada, SLO, Sac St, and Boise State (they had him at one of their summer camps and immediately moved him SS) have been looking at him, but UM was the first to step up... That means a lot to him!!!
I don't know why he isn't being offered more scholarships, but someone is going to be very happy with him... To top things off, he's very coachable!
It seems every year someone slips through the recruiting cracks and years later, everyone wonders how... Hopfully that wll be Gamboa at UM!

:thumb: He is going to be star! I don't want to get my hopes up too high until he puts pen to paper, but it looks promising. The Griz are (potentially) getting a steal!

It will be hard for any Montana egrizzer to refute your information from down there then. By the looks of your sign up date, and your location. Welcome aboard Gamboas and all of San Clemente, rather you are a relative, good friend, teacher, coach, or just local. I hope you will have some good high school player news for us from that area as long as you choose to be an egrizzer. How about sending a few more like this kid to the GRIZ? :thumb: As you can tell from the posts, GRIZNATION is excited to have him.

CalPoly might not be even close to what this kid is looking for. Somekids just want a change of scenery and a place to win a championship and get noticed not to mention a very good academic climate, which both schools offer, but the two campuses are miles apart in cultural ways...Cal Poly, for all its great rep, is a hard sell for many Calif kids..most feel if they can get in there might as well go to any of the UC's....that would not have been my choice..I like everything about CP..but, then, I like UCLA, UCD, Cal, etc.
 
Just think Tripp blitzing on the outside one possession, and Owen or Gamboa blitzing from the other side the next possession...teams won't know what hit them with those speed demon OLB'ers :!:
 
I think Mr. Gamboa was to have visited Missoula last week sometime, any updates on his visit? It sounded like he was wanting to be a Griz, but his mother was wanting him to check out others schools (EWU etc..)

Hope he had a good visit and signs. Any updates on this kid? Looks like a real winner to me.

He was in Missoula last weekend. Assume it went well, but don't know.
 
Looks like Gamboa enjoyed his trip... San Diego State called him a couple of days ago with an offer and Gamboa told them he had already committed to Montana :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

An offer from SDSU, would be hard to turn down, and shows he is a pretty talented recruit. Thank you so much for the updates from down there, Edward. :thumb:

I cannot wait to see if Gamboa is as good live, as on video. We are getting more speed. :thumb:
 
Herbert is a FBS talent who, for some unknown reason, is being under recruited. It appears now that some teams are trying to catch the boat they missed. A lot of recruits are big on loyalty, Montana has been there from the beginning because the Griz recognized his talent. Herbert is now returning the loyalty and I know he is going to love being a Griz. I wouldn't begrudge him however if he had accepted an FBS offer. Herbert knows what is best for him, and fortunately for Montana, it looks to be the Griz!

My thoughts exactly -- it wouldn't make sense to commit until all the trips were taken. And why would EWU pay to fly him in if he is going elsewhere? Granted a verbal isn't binding, but it still doesn't add up. Gamboa is a good one, very fast, great nose for the ball and a solid tackler; I do hope he becomes a Griz, but the blog article leaves me wondering.

Happens all the time. Not reported often at this level, but if you follow SEC type recruiting you see lots of kids who are verbals to one school still take their official to another. And sometimes a verbal de-commits after visiting someplace else. Typically they stick to the first verbal. But it is a very common practice in the world of recruiting.
