Samuelson? Spoja?

The reality is Montana only produces a handful of D1 prospects on a given year and now and then an exceptional recruit like Tinkle, Huestis or Edwards a few years back. The higher TDC sets the bar the fewer Montana kids will be Griz, but perhaps we will be able to keep some of the top players. Watch for Raquan Evans (Jr) out of Skyview. He may be the next great Montana recruit.

Brendan Howard from Great Falls is getting D1 looks, but will likely be a bobcat.

Watched him at State AA the past two years. He shoots it well, rebounds and defends well and plays pretty good team game. Question for him will be ultimate size and athleticism. I think GFH listed him at 6'7" (no way!). I would put him at 6'4" or 6'5" . I don't think as tall as a Weisner, Lopez....maybe more like Gfeller but to me not as athletic as any of them and more reliant on inside game than would allow at NCAA D1 level. Hope he makes it somewhere but don't see him having the same career his brother had at MSU.

I must have seen a different program listed Howard at 6'6" plays inside more for high school team but have seen him play with Idaho Select top team and he plays the wing seems much quicker then his brother. Has interest from other Big Sky School outside of Montana from what i have been told.

I've not seen him outside of HS ball so my critique may not be the best. I wish him the best, but do feel he's a "tweener" that will play but never "star" at D1 level.

IMO The best prospect out of Monana high schools this year is Ragan Shein out of Helena High. The kid is big, like 6-7, has hops and is very aggressive with the ball. I believe he is committed to Mt Tech.

The kid is extremely skilled and has the ability to play SF at the next level, which he definitely has the size for. He is also still very young and looks like he isn't done growing. If he does grow to that 6'7", he will be a guy that could play in the Big Sky. His brother was one of the best players in the conference and one of the better players MSU has ever had, so that would be setting the bar pretty high for him... Will probably be a bobcat, but just throwing his name out there as someone that will likely play D1.

I do think there were at least a few kids better than Shein this year and after seeing his antics at the state AA tournament, there is no way I'd like to have him on my team.

I think next year's class has more top end talent (Evans & Howard). Some seniors that showed promise were Aaron Weidenaar from Bozeman who is going to Central Arkansas. He played on a top flight AAU squad from Arizona with a couple of the nation's top recruits. Dane Warp from Havre is quite talented and going to Carroll. Ladan Ricketts from Livingston is under the radar being on a team that didn't fair too well, but I'm sold on this kid. 6'5" two-guard with great outside shooting and multiple other skills. I don't know if he was being recruited by anyone. Also Jacob Hadley was quite impressive, but chose to play football for MSU.

Being a Montana native, I do miss having a strong representation of local kids on the roster. While growing up, the Griz had players from such metropolitan areas as Darby, Broadus, Lambert, Geraldine, and Shelby and they weren't just the players filling out the roster. I also remember others from Butte, Helena, Missoula, etc

Does anyone know if we even looked at Kendal Manual from Skyview last year? He's at Oregon State now, but I thought he'd be worth trying to get.

My friend lives in Livingston. He is really high on Rickett's and feels he is about as under the radar as a player can get in this state. He is really hurt by the lack of success of the program and some internal issues with that team, which he did not get into detail about. He feels Ricketts could play for the GRIZ or Cats and would take a walk on offer.

JSB you may be right re. Shein's demeanor. I was thinking only of physique and playing style. In my mind, a small Montana kid (like R. Evans) has to be exceptional (which he is). The two times I saw Shein he looked bigger, stronger than Weidenaur by a long long ways. Weidenaur has a better team around him which helps. Anyway. I think the cupboard is bare this year but next year will be better for legit D1 talent in Montana schools.
