Montana, Montana State- PAC 12 Conference

“Stanford and Cal are one vote short of approval for ACC membership, Sports Illustrated's Pat Forde and Richard Johnson reported.

Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina and North Carolina State oppose the proposed expansion, per Forde and Johnson.

Without one of those schools changing their stance, the two Pac-12 members will be unable to join the ACC. The admission of new ACC members requires approval from 12 of the conference's 15 president and chancellors, per ESPN.

Without 12 yes votes on the table, the ACC is unlikely to hold a formal expansion vote, according to Forde and Johnson.“

Bleacher Report.

“ Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick told ESPN's Heather Dinich that the school advocated for Stanford and California to join the ACC amid the ongoing realignment across college sports that could spell the end of the Pac-12 conference.

"The notion that two of the very best academic institutions in the world who also play D1 sports could be abandoned in this latest chapter of realignment is an indictment of college athletics," he said, per Dinich.”

Bleacher.

Pac-12 presidents turned down $30 million per school from ESPN, and asked for $50 million. ESPN said goodbye. This was after USC and UCLA were leaving. Greed and miscalculation cost the presidents their conference. What a bummer the Pac-12 is gone.

Stanford nearly cut 11 of their sports a few years ago...

The cuts included men's and women's fencing, field hockey, lightweight rowing, men's rowing, co-ed and women's sailing, squash, synchronized swimming, men's volleyball and wrestling.

Seems they have issues beyond no conference.

A whole lotta dreamin' going on.

I agree with this post by HelenaHB. I personally don't have much of a dream re: where Montana could be aligned in 1-3 seasons, but I DO -- HelenaHandBasket -- believe-in and advocate some dreaming. Actually, I suspect (or hope) that the powers that be at UM are doing just that. Dream fast, big and hope for a royal flush. The way things look nationally this a.m. there could be some foundation-cracking everywhere. The ability to act quickly and pro-actively might be very important for Griz sports... and for the school itself.

I've been more of a hoops fan/supporter over the past years... more recently a GrizVB & softball supporter, but it doesn't take much number-crunching to realize how important the gate receipts from ONE season of Griz home football games means for this school, athletically and academically. I firmly believe the decisions Montana administrators make regarding this entire realignment process will be critical for the entire institution and Missoula as a community.

The decisions Montana administrators make will affect UM both short- and long term. I hope they dream big, honestly... Zootown has benefitted highly by the huge growth of football-fueled culture surrounding UM, and I personally believe there are enough loyal fans to actually support a move that generates even more sports fan-based connection to our community.

LOL, the athletic department isn't dreaming, they are living in the reality of the situation everyday and preparing for future scenarios.

With the addition of a decent roof, it could become a world class Arboretum, or Botanical Garden. Leftwing loonies would love it.

Well, the site was the former Clover Bowl(if memory serves me)...

Engstrom took care of the parking problem long ago.

We have a guy in Main Hall sitting in the president’s chair that could get it done in six months if the BOR gave him the authority.

I think you have hit the problem on the head. The BOR is a functional joke. Political.
