Montana @ Colorado State [Game Thread]

Can't agree with you SC. They just played poorly. They didn't play that way because of who they played.

Just telling you what I saw. And that's that CSU had better athletes and were deeper than Montana tonight.

not giving up....Colin captured it,,,just adjusting to the reality...ugly..sad ..reality ..maybe we can compete in the Sky..? whew ..no accomplishment in my opinion,,like fb -- I expect way more than this ,,,Tinkle ..players,,,staff...gameplan ,,and EFFORT,,,,,hey ,,need a break,,,,listen to http://www.KINK.FM...40 year station playing every years best hits,,starting in 1968..today...from the rain forest to the big sky..another year every day,,,streaming for you Griz fans who remember when Hoops dominated Griz Sports,,,1968- until the 21st century,,,,,still pissed and disappointed,,,thanks..Duke????,,,ouch!

I wish our bball team played with half the heart and pride for their school that our football team brings every week. That would be nice.

Amazing we are already questioning this teams heart. 1st game of the year with poor effort. How does that happen?

Tinkle does not know how to motivate. The one common thread, during his now losing record tenure, is lack of effort and heart.

Not a great thing to be known for...let's sign him up for another three.

You are all entitled to your opinion, but as someone that was there, the major difference in this game was Jack, Jordan, and CET having absolutely horrible games offensively. The score may not reflect it, but this team played hard, they dived for loose balls, they played unselfish. Seriously check out the stats, this will be the 1st and last time that Jack, Jordan, and CET all struggle in the same game. Also to add, I did not see this team hoisting up careless 3's either.

I have said this every year since Matthews and Criswell left, this offense lacks consistent penetrating! McGillis, CET, Taylor, and Johnson all can bring that element, and I thoroughly expect it will happen!

I do hope someone else there will echo my opinion being those 3 having absolute horrible games. How many teams can overcome your top 2 players being OFF and your starting PG not being able to distribute?
I am sure those 3 will be the 1st to admit they are the main reason for a blowout loss! It is a long year, we got our worst game of the year out of the way early this year instead of at the end of the year.

Rest of the team did their part. Those 3 just did not have it. Yes it is as simple as that!

I e-mailed a friend yesterday, and asked him what he thought of this year's team. I quickly followed up my question with a statement: "Expectations are very high."

He replied, "We'll see after tonight's game."

I think he was wrong (and he's a basketball coach). One game doesn't tell you much about a season. It just tells you about the team's progress, or lack of progress, at one point in the season.

Grizzly fans are fickle. Doesn't matter if it's football or basketball. A big win and expectations go through the roof. A big loss and it's the end of the world.

Let's all try and be a little more objective. Does the team have heart? We'll see. Can they bounce back? We'll see. Can they defend? We'll see. Can we get any points out of our "point" guard? We'll see. Are they tough enough? We'll see.

Is CSU better than we thought they'd be?

I hear you. Agree with most of it. But, I don't agree with all of it. Your putting most of the blame on those three. But I put blame on the coaches and all the players. Fact is, there are teams that play horribly on offense and win or give themselves a chance to win. Lady Griz do it. Lady Griz rarely get blown out unless against a team that is clearly superior to them. CSU wasn't that superior to the Griz.

But tell me, Why do the Griz give up on defense when the offense goes bad? Lady Griz, now, when the offense goes bad, they really make an extra effort on defense to make up for the poor offense. Allows them a chance to win when things aren't going so good. But, it is quite the opposite with the Griz. That part of the equation just indicates a problem with coaching. Robin Selvig is one of the most intense coaches out there and that intensity tends to rub off on the players. Wayne just doesn't seem to be a very intense coach, and to many times it doesn't appear that the players play with enough intensity. It appears to me that when the Griz start missing shots they lose intensity and it hurts them defensively.
But, now, reading the paper, Wayne has come out with the same excuses he used last year. But, what Wayne really needs to do is when the offense goes bad, which happens to pretty much every team every once in a while, he needs to find a way for the Griz to increase their intensity on defense instead of soften up.
Even if those three players made the points we expect them, it would not have made up a 30 point difference.
Griz need to play 40 minutes of defense no matter how the offense is playing.

If he can't do that, the season is just going to end up just like the last two years no matter how good of players we have.

Come on.....with this group of kids a coaching staff cannot be defended after losing to a team by 30 that is picked to finish 8th out out 9 in their league. Geez....Duke will be playing their walk-ons in the first half. Something has to change, Montana has a tremendous amount of talent this year. Losing by 30 to CSU is unacceptable. What do you say....about 1,500 in the stands for Monday's UM-Western game?

mtgrizrule, love and support your team but don't ever talk about three point shooters...You do not understand it's part in the game, possibly because you have watched this coaching staff coach and listened to them rip on players who are 3 point shooters. Terms like selfish, jacking them up, hoisting up careless 3's just shows no understanding of this part of the game of basketball. Someone needs to call Coach K at Duke and let him know that his team is out of control with those threes...Apparently he doesn't know what he is doing.

Criswell, Martin and Matthews took us to the Big Dance twice with those darn threes. Without the three the last few years things may have been much worse. Our game plan is well known, we NEED the 3 to draw attention from their defense.

I will tell you all, We need to give credit to CSU. They played a very good game. I know a good defense and smart team when I see one. CSU is incredible on defense, very crisp on offense, they execute very well! I just hope their youth has more highs than lows this year. IF that turns out to be case they could surprise their fans, opponents, and the MWC this year. I did not see a bottom dwelling team there. CSU has a bright future.

I don't really get to watch these teams, but from all the talk during the off-season it sounded like we would be pretty deep. That must not be the case, though, if a couple guys have an "off" night and no one else is available to spell them and stop the bleeding. So, how deep are we really?
