He was in. Joke of a call. It really does demonstrate the dire situation that Montana high school football is in with the limited number of officials. That being said, if CMR does not turn the ball over 3 times inside the 20 then this is a laugher of a game. CMR put themselve in a position to let the ref decide it for them. That being said, I LOVE the call of going for two. Johnson played to win. He put it in his best players hands to win the game and he did. The blown call not withstanding. That is why Johnson is the best coach in the history of the state of Montana football.

Here is an opinion from a friend of mine who was on the field...

I haven't seen a picture of the final play, and I don't think you'll see one. I didn't see any people with cameras on the north sideline near the goal line. I was on the south sideline looking right down the goal line and I couldn't tell if he got in or not. It looked like he was going to, then the momentum stopped. I kept waiting for the ref on the north sideline to raise his hands. He had the best angle, and he never even twitched.
It should be noted that the CMR players on the field didn't complain. I could be wrong, but I didn't notice any players raise their hands to signal it was good. In fact, their body language right away was what told me they weren't going to call it good. Coach Johnson walked down to look at where Horner laid on the field and walked away without a word to anybody. Again, I could be wrong, but I didn't see CMR's coaches complain, and their fans were on the other end of the field. Anybody sitting in the CMR section who tells you he got in is full of it. There's no way they could see from there. Some Butte fans thought he got in, others swear he didn't. The officiating crew was from Bozeman.

And if I did come off wrong it was only because I am so proud of my town and football team, we've been down for 21 years...so we finally get in the playoff mix and all we get is doubted.

Hell, somebody, I think the name is, oh crap, I can't even remember the name, but it's something like (having trouble remembering, I could be totally wrong on the name, but I remember the picture) AzGrizFan1...his avatar picture is that of a tan bare stomach model...and his blood content is .37 or something like that. haha Anyways, he came at me out of the blue and disagreed with me about Butte beating CMR FOR A SECOND TIME and said that I would be EATING CROW when the game was over. I was like where did that come from? So that pissed me off and is the reason for these, "I TOLD YOU SO!" POSTS. So there you have it, I was provoked and I repsonded uncharistaristically angrilly. My bad. I apologies to anyone I offended/ticked off.

Glad to know you read all of my posts, and took the time to respond. :lol: :lol:

I watched 1 game in person and saw 4 on film (Hudl). Cook has VERY good receivers that have helped him put up some big numbers this year. They consistently turned short passes into big gains (and unfortunately, aren't they both Juniors???). His offensive line is BIG, and does a good job protecting him. As you said, that makes it very difficult if you only rush 3-4, as the line will protect him and he will pick a team apart. In the games I saw, he was very quick with his release (but a strange throwing motion), and accurate on the short throws. His accuracy drops significantly after 10-15 yds. I didn't say he couldn't throw the deep ball.

Cook is a big, strong kid. He is fairly fast, and he is a load to bring down. I think he is going to have to work on his delivery, and his long ball accuracy. If he does that, he has a tremendous future. I am not down on the kid at all, and apologize to Butte fans everywhere if I sounded like it. For a sophomore, he is impressive. And short or long passes, he has put up some big numbers.

Guess I was wrong on Dennehy. I thought he was the tight end. Whoever that was, was very good in the games I saw.

As for the rest of my picks, I still think Helena was the most complete team I saw all year. But that is why they play the game.

Finally, IG - I hate to break it to you, but I have your Dogs winning this Friday night. Sorry.... . :thumb: They just need to slow Dissly down.

And for what it is worth, Naranche is, without a doubt, the best high school football stadium I have been in. It is worth some points.

so does anyone have some insight on how this game is going to go?! i've talked to some parents of bozeman players and of course they just say how amazing bozeman is. then i hear talk from butte fans and hear how incredible butte is. anyone without bias and who has paid attention this year have a feel for how this one will shape up?
i have been to a couple bozeman games and came away very impressed with their defense. and i know butte has a great offense. what else should we know?

My understanding is Butte beat 'em up pretty good earlier in the year but at that time Bozeman did not have their starting qb. In fact, i think that exact thing (Butte facing a backup qb) has happened 3 times this year. Kinda lucky. It will be an amazing game and a tough ticket to find (for a HS game); Butte certainly has the best/craziest stadium in all of MT.

Everyone claiming that CMR got in on that last play is wrong, IMHO. That was the first play all game that the CMR RB was stood up and pushed back. Kudos to the BHS player that made first contact; way to hold your ground until the cavalry arrived. There is no ref on the planet that would not reward that effort.

The DL that first stopped the CMR QB name is Billy Robinson. He lost his mother this year and has played insipired football (dedicating the season to her) all year.

Butte fumbles snap, CMR recovers and scores a few plays later. 21-7 cmr

I gotta give a lot of credit to CMR though for a great battle. They are the only team that has come into Butte with confidence and swagger. They ran the ball hard (broke tackles) on offense, and they (especially the safeties) knocked the crap out of you on defense. That was a very physical, very good football team! They were classy in defeat as well. I respect that team showed up!

I thought capital entered their game with some swagger, jumped out to a 20-0 lead, credit goes to Butte for finding a way to pull out some tough games. I didn't think Butte had a solid enough defense to advance this far, turns out I was wrong. Should be interesting Friday night, I expect a tight one for sure. I am definitely regardless the outcome of the game to see if Butte can keep up their good play year after year. I know the QB is a junior, but they will lose some very good linemen. I am very impressed with the Butorvich who has started for 3 or maybe 4 years on the line. In the AA, it seems a few programs are solid every year with Capital, CMR, Billings West, seem to be tough every year. I am interested to see if Butte can join this group. Hats off to both Bozeman and Butte, you guys deserve to be in the game.

Everyone says how tough it is to beat a team twice in one season. Well Butte (former #1, current #2) has done it every time they've had to fact a team twice this season...they've beat Skyview and CMR twice. Can they beat Bozeman for the 2nd time? We'll see...

Bozeman (former #1 team in state, ranked there until they lost their starting QB to injury, who is only a JR and is recieving college interest) is tough. Butte will have their hands full with the Hawks EXPLOSIVE offense. And the Butte offense will be facing a TOUGH Bozmean defense. But Butte is (favored) very talented and tough to beat in front thier rowdy faithful.

That is interesting. I assume that the film you are referring to is the game film taken from the press box at the 50 yard line which could not confirm one way or the other whether the qb crossed the goal line, and I also assume that the person who reported what the film purportedly shows is aligned with CMR. But as you pointed out it doesn't matter now. I will say that in my view CMR's decision to go for the 2 point conversion was the right call without a doubt especially when considering the success they had moving the ball. And I agree with Hammer, CMR's qb and running back are great players. The O line is also very good.

I don't know for sure. I just saw the clip tonight for myself, but the spot the side judge came in and marked it was at least a yard to a yard and a half behind Horner's forward progress. He marked it back to where the second wave pushed him, and not where his forward progress was. It looked to me like he was probably in, but again, it was at an angle with snow all over the ground. The person who stated CMR players did not celebrate were wrong. In fact, almost all the players thought he was in. The receiver Carter number 5 was right on the play and was celebrating the hardest. I know that he could have been trying to sell it, but all the players seemed pretty convinced. Even the Butte players looked surprised that he did not call it a touchdown. That being said, CMR has every opportunity to put it away and did not and the Butte coaches made adjustments with the quarterback draw that was genius. Congrats Butte. I actually hope they beat Bozeman.

Well one thing I have grown to know for sure. Refs in Butte guarantee a Bulldog win. And if for some reseason Bozeman pulls it out Butte will beat their ass in the parking lot. Thats the hospitality I learned to love.
