After posting above I realized that I picked all home teams to win. If I had to guess on an upset, I would go with Skyview over Butte. If its snowy and Skyview can run the ball they might be able to get out of Butte with the W...

How does the saying go? "Stay with your first choice!"

You changed your mind to go with a 7 seed on the road over the 2 seed at home (former #1 team in the state)?!?! The home team with the loudest crowd in the state? Wow. :bad:

what are your keys to the game this weekend? i admit i haven't paid much attention this season as i don't have any kids playing for bozeman so i'm curious how this game should play out. bozeman has a great defense is my understanding. and butte has the best offense in the state? might have to swing over for this one.

The winner of the west v cmr game will win out.

I think Glacier is the favorite...

Will be at home for every game
On a seven game win streak
Top 2 in Special Teams
#2 Offense in AA (37 PPG)
#1 Defense in AA (11 PPG)

Butte is the favorite then and now.

Butte will be home for every game. Best homefield in the state.
#1 Offense in the State, they can score with anybody.
Defense has improved...made a fantastic goal line stand for semi-final victory...the heart of a chamion.

And by the way, a pretty good coach.....

Good coach, for sure. He was the only coach to find a way to slow down (but NOT STOP) the explosive BHS passing attack, which put up a respectable 20-31, 236 yards. Not the usual 300 to +500, but... .

The only problem with CMR lining up pre-snap with 3 deep safeties and dropping SEVEN in coverage was that left them with a meager 4 in the box! Three down lineman and 1 middle linebacker. BHS had 5 lineman and 1 RB to block four defenders...easy enough. QB up the middle was golden, and gave BHS the victory. BHS rushed 42 times for 207 yards.

Way to adjust the gameplan on the fly BHS coaches!!!

1 Glacier hosting 8 Capital - I think Glacier wins fairly comfortably, unless Capital gets their #2 QB back. Even if he is back, I think Glacier wins by 10 or more.

2 Butte hosting 7 Skyview - I think Butte wins, but this is going to be a very close game. Skyview is playing very well right now, and their offense is difficult to defend. Neither defense is a strong point, but I think Skyview's defense is better. The only way Skyview wins this is to take away the short passing game. Butte's QB isn't nearly as accurate if he has to hold the ball and throw longer. He is good on the quick short passing game, and his receivers put up a LOT of yards after the catch. Butte's tight end (Dennehy?) could be a big key for the game.

3 CMR hosting 6 West - This would be my other possible upset, but don't think it happens. West had been playing pretty well, but kind of went in the tank last week. Johnson will have CMR ready to go for the playoffs.

4 Helena hosting 5 Bozeman - Helena rolls in this one. Helena and Glacier were the 2 best teams I saw all year. It depends on what QB Bozeman plays. I think Linebarger is better, but the coaching staff seems to like Weyer. Helena needs an upset in the other 2 games to avoid a semi-final game at Glacier.

How many BHS games have you seen this year? Cook throws a Butteiful deep ball :!: He has a strong arm and very accurate with it. CMR I'm sure didn't like that 60 yard fly pattern for BHS first TD...

No wonder you missed picking the playoff winners, you don't even know the teams very well. Dennehy is NOT Butte Highs tight end. He was a 6'3" linebacker that got hurt right at the start of the season and hasn't played in that fashion basically all year. He was hoping it was a stinger but it ended up being worse. So he is relagated to non-contact duties, he is the kicker. Wish he was playing D thoough, we miss him a lot.

Junior Tyler Earles is the BHS tight end. He caught a much-needed 2 point conversion against CMR.

Intuitive,
Is this your "I told you so tour?" Butte has a great football team. It also has the best stadium in the state. It might have the loudest fans in the state as well, but if you are any indication, they might be the worst. Every post that you quoted was someones opinion of how they thought it might play out. I thought CMR would win out, and if they don't shoot themselves in the foot with second half turnovers, they may have. I hardly think someones opinion of how the playoffs might shake out warrant what you are doing, but you go right ahead and reinforce that Butte stereotype.

First game of the season was a long time ago. Its hard to beat any team twice and even harder to beat Jack Johnson after hes seen you before. Sure Butte could win but CMR has got a lot better since the first time they played, I dont think you can say Butte has improved as much even though they are a solid team.

CMR-35
Butte - 27

The hung out to dry, jump balls that Cook throws will be picked off this go around.....CMRs defense shines.
Hey, I'm glad to see you've come over to my way of thinking about play-maker QB's who throw shit up and call it a "pass".

From the montana standard, after the skyview beatdown:

..."'They make plays all right, averaging over 500 yards of offense per outing, and a near equal balance between the pass and run. They have run the ball 384 times and passed it 401 times, with 2,155 coming on the ground and 3,438 via the air attack."...

"Yards-after-catch statistics are not kept at the high school level, but one would have to wonder how much they have earned considering none of these players do anything but attack a tackle chin first, heart second, and punishment last."

so does anyone have some insight on how this game is going to go?! i've talked to some parents of bozeman players and of course they just say how amazing bozeman is. then i hear talk from butte fans and hear how incredible butte is. anyone without bias and who has paid attention this year have a feel for how this one will shape up?

i have been to a couple bozeman games and came away very impressed with their defense. and i know butte has a great offense. what else should we know?

This weeks games are very interesting:

#1 Glacier (9-2) hosts #5 Bozeman (8-3)
Earlier in this season Bozeman traveled to Glacier in what can only be described as a bare knuckle fight. I happen to be at the game and can say I have never enjoyed a 7-3 game as much as this one. Defense was hard hitting and defined what both O's were trying to do. Glacier won the game and knocked Bozeman's QB out late in the game with a sholder injury. The Bozeman QB (Weyer) returned last week and lead Bozeman to two late TD's to stun the Helena Bengals. This is a game of the top two Defenses in the state and it would be hard to see a high scoring afair, but I do think there will be a lot more points then the first game they played.
I got Glacier 21-14.

#2 Butte (9-2) hosts #3 CMR (9-2)
In the first game of the year in late August Butte beat CMR 41-20. It was the first of many high scoring games for Butte. Butte is now know as the team with all the O and not much D. It has worked well for them and they look to continue the onslaught against a much improved CMR team. In the first meeting, I have a feeling that CMR was not prepared for the air attack of Butte and thought they would see more of a banaced game. This time around I expect a lot closer game and a lot less scoring. CMR likes to grind it out and will atempt to shorten the game by running the ball ALOT! Look for QB read by the CMR offense about 20-25 times on Friday. The game is in Butte where the Bulldogs have been mighty tough...
Butte sneaks by 28-24

:thumb: Good call on Butte, Paytonlives! I am really suprised at all the people that don't understand how good Bozeman is though!!!

Butte's defense may not be their strong point, but they did all but shut down the powerful Skyview running game last week. I have a feeling that CMR will need to throw the ball (Skyview moved the ball through the air last week) more than they like to in able to beat Butte. I anticipate a much closer game this time around, but Butte pulls it out 34-31.

As for the Glacier-Bozeman game, I have a feeling Bozeman will come out on top this time around. The Hawks beat a tough Helena team on the road last week (I thought Helena would have been in the chipper). Glacier has had tough games their last two weeks, and with the Hawks QB back, I anticipate an upset. Bozeman 17-14

Bozeman over Glacier, good call Rats of Butte! Someone with a clue!

Glad to know you read all of my posts, and took the time to respond.

I watched 1 game in person and saw 4 on film (Hudl). Cook has VERY good receivers that have helped him put up some big numbers this year. They consistently turned short passes into big gains (and unfortunately, aren't they both Juniors???). His offensive line is BIG, and does a good job protecting him. As you said, that makes it very difficult if you only rush 3-4, as the line will protect him and he will pick a team apart. In the games I saw, he was very quick with his release (but a strange throwing motion), and accurate on the short throws. His accuracy drops significantly after 10-15 yds. I didn't say he couldn't throw the deep ball.

Cook is a big, strong kid. He is fairly fast, and he is a load to bring down. I think he is going to have to work on his delivery, and his long ball accuracy. If he does that, he has a tremendous future. I am not down on the kid at all, and apologize to Butte fans everywhere if I sounded like it. For a sophomore, he is impressive. And short or long passes, he has put up some big numbers.

Guess I was wrong on Dennehy. I thought he was the tight end. Whoever that was, was very good in the games I saw.

As for the rest of my picks, I still think Helena was the most complete team I saw all year. But that is why they play the game.

Finally, IG - I hate to break it to you, but I have your Dogs winning this Friday night. Sorry.... . :thumb: They just need to slow Dissly down.

And for what it is worth, Naranche is, without a doubt, the best high school football stadium I have been in. It is worth some points.

My understanding is Butte beat 'em up pretty good earlier in the year but at that time Bozeman did not have their starting qb. In fact, i think that exact thing (Butte facing a backup qb) has happened 3 times this year. Kinda lucky. It will be an amazing game and a tough ticket to find (for a HS game); Butte certainly has the best/craziest stadium in all of MT.

Everyone claiming that CMR got in on that last play is wrong, IMHO. That was the first play all game that the CMR RB was stood up and pushed back. Kudos to the BHS player that made first contact; way to hold your ground until the cavalry arrived. There is no ref on the planet that would not reward that effort.

Butte will beat CMR (AGAIN)

Bozeman will beat Glacier

State Championship will be in Butte, where it belongs, with Butte beating Bozeman.

So far:

CORRECT

CORRECT

CORRECT, with only the outcome of the state championship still to play out.

The best of the best are going to duke it out, it's anybody's game, could go either way of course.

Everyone says how tough it is to beat a team twice in one season. Well Butte (former #1, current #2) has done it every time they've had to fact a team twice this season...they've beat Skyview and CMR twice. Can they beat Bozeman for the 2nd time? We'll see...

Bozeman (former #1 team in state, ranked there until they lost their starting QB to injury, who is only a JR and is recieving college interest) is tough. Butte will have their hands full with the Hawks EXPLOSIVE offense. And the Butte offense will be facing a TOUGH Bozmean defense. But Butte is (favored) very talented and tough to beat in front thier rowdy faithful.

A quick glance below I count Butte with 26 State Championship victories and 14 runn-up finishes, and 1 tie.

Bozeman High has 3 state championship victories, 3 runner-up finishes.

It's going to be WILD at Naranche Stadium, the house the legends built :!:

Butte fumbles snap, CMR recovers and scores a few plays later. 21-7 cmr

The center snapped the ball (shotgun) before he was supposed to (QB, Cook, didn't call for it yet), the snap hit the 6'4" QB in the shins right above his shoes, and the ball rebounded back into the line-of-scrimmage where CMR fell on it. I've gotta give huge props to the BHS QB on the play however, he hustled from 5 yards back (shotgun) and stuck his nose hard in there (face and reaching arm first) diving under the sea of big men. He slammed himself up in there, was all heart. Could have gotten his arm/shoulder injured/diving reaching for the ball like he did. But he knew the importance of trying to get that ball back in his own territory. He wasn't shaken up badly, but did run off to the sideline shaking out his arm/shoulder. Cook was a beast in that semi-final, good passing numbers and great rushing numbers/tds by the signal caller.

Butte high punished themselves badly all day with their kickoff return and punt return game! They might as well have been turnovers because those special teams gave cmr easy field position. BHS returners did a horrible job of fielding the kicks. They let them hit the ground and roll...which gave Butte horrible field postions all game. The kickoff return in the 2nd half that Zack Bunney did not field and let roll almost the goal-line set up the safety the next play, it was fitting that it was Bunney that got tacled in the endzone. When Bunney ran off the field after the safety coach Grey turned to him and yelled, "Why didn't you field the kick?!?!" He was PISSED.

Sure CMR had two more fumbles than Butte, but Butte equaled that out with their horrible special teams returns (or should I say negative returns) that left them deep, deep in their own territory all game, and led directly to the 2 point safety one play later.

I gotta give a lot of credit to CMR though for a great battle. They are the only team that has come into Butte with confidence and swagger. They ran the ball hard (broke tackles) on offense, and they (especially the safeties) knocked the crap out of you on defense. That was a very physical, very good football team! They were classy in defeat as well. I respect that team showed up!

so does anyone have some insight on how this game is going to go?! i've talked to some parents of bozeman players and of course they just say how amazing bozeman is. then i hear talk from butte fans and hear how incredible butte is. anyone without bias and who has paid attention this year have a feel for how this one will shape up?

i have been to a couple bozeman games and came away very impressed with their defense. and i know butte has a great offense. what else should we know?

I've heard IntuitiveGriz is pretty unbiased. I would ask him.

:wtf: - looked like he was in.

...that'z because...
...he waz in...

... 8-) ...

He was in. Joke of a call. It really does demonstrate the dire situation that Montana high school football is in with the limited number of officials. That being said, if CMR does not turn the ball over 3 times inside the 20 then this is a laugher of a game. CMR put themselve in a position to let the ref decide it for them. That being said, I LOVE the call of going for two. Johnson played to win. He put it in his best players hands to win the game and he did. The blown call not withstanding. That is why Johnson is the best coach in the history of the state of Montana football.

Do yourself a favor, do swing over for the game, if there are any seats available. The game is between the last two teams standing, so they are the best! They were actually both ranked #1 previously as well.

Butte has an incredible, balanced offense, and an improving defense (probably middle of the pack defense...but a defense that won the semi-final game with a goal-line 2 pt conversion stand against a powerful CMR rushing attack).

Bozeman has a tough defense and and explosive offense. Tall and Talented QB (Weyer), short and speedy RB (Gapmayer) who likes to catch it in the flat, and 3 good downfield pass catchers. Miller, Dissley, and Delaney. Bozeman is very well coached.

Butte won the regualr season match-up in Butte, not sure if I remember the exact score but I believe it was 28-19.

It's going to be a sold-out, loud, electric atmosphere!!!

The winner will certainly deserve the right to be called STATE CHAMPION :!:
