Mike Montgomery's Son

I don't know if anyone has posted this or not on here but thought it was interesting. Former Griz Coach Mike Montgomery's son John is playing on the LMU basketball team. You may have seen him in action against Gonzaga. He is a pretty well rounded kid as the following bit from the LMU webpage will attest.

Personal:
John Michael Montgomery was born on April 26, 1983 in Missoula, MT... he is the son of Mike and Sarah Montgomery... father is the head basketball coach with the Golden State Warriors... he has one sister, Annie... sister plays volleyball for USC and won a national title in 2003... was heavily involved in community service work in high school, working with mentally disabled as a freshman, coaching a fifth grade basketball team as a sophomore, working with elderly at a convalescent home as a junior and volunteering at the San Jose Family Shelter... chose LMU for the opportunity to compete in Division I basketball while attending a university with a great academic emphasis... hopes to follow in his father's footsteps and become a basketball coach... a Sociology major.

The Cats are recruiting Derek Selvig buuuuuuuutttt... are realsitic. They are spending enough time/effort just so they can say they did recruit. I do not think Utah State has offered yet. The Cats offered Howard a few months back. Huse is the Griz's in the Howards. The cats are actually warming quite a bit to Edwards from Butte. They have received very positive comments from Edwards.

Have you seen them all play and how do you rate them? Are there really that many D1 players in MT right now or are they projects?

Let's see, born in 1983, dad's 1st year at Stanford was 1986, just what ball was he playing with this friend of yours'? Or is your friend from P Alto?

Perhaps he didn't move to California with his dad, or went back and forth...?

Monty never ever ever came back to missoula? I dont mean organized, I just mean that they played ball together!

Best Junior Basketball Players in the state:

1. Bobby Howard Great Falls high. Best all around hoops player in the state. Would be a great get for either Bozeman or MSU.
2. Derek Selvig from Glendive. A 6-10 kid playing shooting guard. Slower kid, has a hard time matching up on defense. Might be that the level is too easy, but he doesn't take over games. Was marginal at best during the state tournament.

Others:
Bo Selvig. Fairview, Cousin to Derek. A great perimeter shooter. Was a hit at the state tournament. Can score, I am not sure how tall he is, but might be one of the better scorers coming back for next year.
Evan Hopkins. Thompson Falls. 6-4 kid, poor defender, but a serious matchup problem for anyone he faces. Can play on the perimeter, has great inside skills, and can dribble drive.
Shawn Tatarka. Great Falls High. The other cog in Great Falls high's team. Role player, but incredibly athletic, and a smart basketball player.

There are others obviously, but those are the five that comes to my mind immediately.
