I think coach K puts a little too much emphasis on defense to start Chavez over Hasquet. Hasquet's not exactly a shot-blocking machine, but his man never gets much done on him offensively -- and he usually draws the assignment of guarding the "big guy", apparently to keep Strait out of foul trouble. Big Slim had a big night, but I don't recall him getting much done while Hasquet was guarding him. Chavez does a lot of great things offensively, and I love watching him play -- but it appears a lot of HIS offense is at the expense of the STRUCTURED offense. He seems to free-wheel a lot. Again, I LOVE watching it, but judging by Coach K's quick trigger, I don't think he enjoys it as much. Chavez plays with a lot more confidence than Hasquet, for sure, probably a reflection of experience. But with Criswell, Strait, and Virgil getting 15-20 pts/game, how much more would you expect out of that position?

Wow....that one little comment really caused an uproar. Was it a low blow? Absolutely, it's Cat/Griz week. Was it racist? Not a chance. I would have said the same thing about criswell or anyone else on the team if they had as many DUIs and MIPs as Chavez has. Hell, I would have made the same comment if Blaine Taylor had the broken toe.
In fact, if the same story came out last year and Kamar Davis had the broken toe, my responese would be some like "Maybe he stubbed his toe on a book....then again...maybe not" or something to that effect.

I find your comment no better or no worse than all of the O'Brien/meth comments that still persist to this day in various posts. Some of us Griz fans seem to be getting a bit sensitive now that the streak is a thing of the past. It's called projection and it isn't a good thing.
I think its safe to say he won't play this weekend since he's missed the last couple days of practice. In an air cast I believe while the dislocated toe heals up.

Beavis - I am sorry and I usually like most of your posts, but IF the exact same post was made about Criswell in the hospotial with a possible broken foot, you wouldn't have made the drunk comment. You would have made some other smartass comment, but not drunk. You were taking a very cheap shot at Chavez personally, not the Griz and not because it is Cat/Griz week. To someone who lives in the heart of NA country, a comment like that would ALWAYS be construed as racist.

I didn't make the comment because he is a NA (in fact that didn't even cross my mind), I made the comment because he has a history of drunkeness (and he's a griz). Just like I don't make fun of Kamarr Davis being stupid because he's black...I make fun of him becasause he was declared academically ineligible (and he's a griz).
I have family members who are enrolled members of the CC tribe on the Rocky Boy reservation (you may even know some of them if you're from Havre), and I also share an office (and am really good friends with) an enrolled member of the Crow reservation. I can assure you that the drunk comment was not because he is NA, it was because he's a griz.
I dislike all griz equally (white, black, purlple, orange...etc)
