"When it comes right down to it, I don't feel melancholy or anything," he said. "I just feel good about what I've accomplished and, you know, away we go. I hope I was able to do as good a job as my peers in my business."

Yes. You did a really good job Mick, and we appreciate your commitment and efforts.

Thank you Mick

I got to know Mick a bit back in the days where KGVO broadcast a million and one high school sporting events and he early on in my legion career broadcast a number of Mav's games. There are a ton of sports casters and writers I have met in both vocations and very few had the knowledge and passion for the sports they covered. Mick was an exception to that rule. I have yet to meet a sports media guy who genuinely wanted to be where he was as much as Mick did.

I don't have much or any proof, other than idle speculation from others, that the decision to remove Mick might have been systemic. Mick is decidedly old school, from a different era of broadcasting. He wasn't a dinosaur, but rather he had a way and that way worked with Mick.

I don't know that I have met a sports guy as genuine as Mick. His personality on air, was quite similar to that of him in person. I know that he wasn't embraced when he took over for Grizzly Bill, but he worked hard to refine his craft and become a better on air guy. I wish Mick the best in retirement because whether we like it or not, retirement is well deserved. Few worked as hard as Mick did.

Again best of luck Mick, we'll miss ya.

Thanks Kyle. And thank you so very much Mick.

Mick is going to be a tough act to replace. Almost everyone enjoys him and enjoys his voice and phrases. His replacement better be damn good, or have thick skin.

Other folks in the athletic dept. began to worry about Mick and his ability to make it to the games on time. Some were concerned about his health. In any event he got the axe. I enjoyed Mick and am among the many that would like to see him stick around for a few more seasons for both football and basketball. Mick did a great job and I will miss him!
