In 2006 #2 Texas Longhorns beat #1 USC Trojans in the Rose Bowl to win the National Championship, but the Rose Bowl wasnt USC home field, they play at the coliseum in L.A.

In 2018 Alabama beat Georgia in Atlanta at the Mercedes-Bens Stadium for the National Championship.. Georgia plays home games at Sanford Stadium in Athens Ga.. roughly an hour away..

Yeah Wolf is correct there hasn’t been a team playing on its home field for a championship since Marshall.

I don't think that's what HHB said, but it's not exactly wrong, is it? A team that wasn't even good enough to make it to the CFP final beat the FCS champs by like 90 points.

I don't think it's necessarily wrong to say the FCS isn't what the vast majority of people consider major CFB, but that also doesn't make Griz FB less meaningful to me personally. By many orders of magnitude, the most "major" sports teams in my life are my kids' teams, but I don't expect ESPN to agree.

Thanks and I did think of these as they were defacto home games which is why I posed the question. Just didn’t think I’d seen it in someone’s actual home stadium since then.
