I just hope we don't get in the habit of these 1 year extensions. Leaves a lot of uncertainity for the coach, assistant coaches, current players, and recruits. Lets have a plan!

NDSU signed Bohl to an 8-year contract extension through 2021, with a base salary this year of $206,000.

UM needs to get real.
Anyone know Delaney's base salary?

Or find some more oil.

I hope Haslam and the AD Dept. use the 2014 year to conduct a thorough national search, and have a candidate lined up to take the helm at the end of the 2014 Season. The players, recruits, hell.. the STATE, should not be surprised when it's announced. Now whether that's all legal and all, I cant speak to.

As much as I like some of the current coaching staff, I don't feel any of them are ready to be hired from within to take on the top spot.

It's a rule set by the BOR or maybe even the legislature that MT universities can't offer any longer of a contract than three years

Its all about raising the salary for your last three years to capitalize on the MT retirement system. That is my take anyways. I could of course be wrong, but since I'm on Egriz there is no way I actually am.

Glad we wont be learning a new system, but bummed that we will continue to be held back by terrible decisions.

I wondered about this. He has now maxed out his last 3, and maybe that was something very important to him.

Bohl also gets 3% of gross ticket sales, plus other incentives that have already earned him $15,000, and could be worth $25,000 more if they win the chipper.

I have not always liked some of the football decisions of this staff, but I am so grateful to Mick for what he did for this program the past 2 years. He helped right the ship. Players seem to really respect the heck out of him. Regardless of the contract, I would like to thank Mick for coming out of retirement and stepping into the storm that was Grizzly football at the time. I also don't think you can underestimate what he has done for Canada to get him in the right direction both on and off the football field.

I think a little extra in the pension check every month would be important to everyone.

Mick gets all kinds of incentives too, for winning the conference championship, going to the playoffs, winning a national championship, for academic progress and graduation, and if his athletes stay out of trouble. That's pretty much the way it was for Pflu and Hauck, too. His base salary is now $160,691, about $5k more than his predecessor.

Yep. He got $10,000 for winning the conference, and he gets $5,000 for each home playoff game. That's the $15,000 I mentioned. Two more home playoff games brings in $10,000, plus $10,000 if they win the chipper. Not sure about academic progress and graduation.

Say what you want, but the facts are he took over the helm at the worst time in Griz football history and got the boys through it. He's 10-2 this year and we're looking at making a run in the playoffs. He flat-out deserves the extension.

Worst time? Explore history and report back. :)

Where does it say in the press release that Montana only cares about making the playoffs and doesn't care about winning in the playoffs? I missed that part?

Hard to argue with his accomplishments this year. 10-2, playoffs, beat the cats, no major off-field issues. I'm guessing a 1 year extension suggests a plan of succession? Wasn't he talking about a 2-3 year extension recently?

I am a fan at this point. Glad to feel we are back on solid ground.

I don't care if the guy is 99 years old, if he is producing, I am behind him. Judge by the results, not the color of his skin, the flavor of his religion, the nature of his politics, what kind of dog he owns, or the number of candles on his birthday cake.

That said, a one year contract extension may leave potential recruits wondering . . . so, I hope the administration is smart enough to take the uncertainty out of that part of the equation very soon.

Totally. Fuck it, why not offer the head coach of the Montana Grizzlies 300k per year base? Attract the talent.

Hard to believe there was football at UM prior to 1986, huh GP?
