MSU is playing Colorado Mesa this weekend, which will them nothing about what Bleskin can do.

According to Coach Ash this morning, Colorado Mesa plays a very unusual defense with a 3 man dl, three lb and 3 safeties in sort of a ring and the 2 CB. It's not something our offense has seen before. So, the QB will have to recognize some different reads than usual. So, it may be a good test for Bleskin. If he cannot handle Colorado Mesa, than I do think that will tell the coaches soemthing. If he does well, that is good and the coaches will have the film to evaluate his overall performance.

Nothing like a loss to a D2 program to knock ya out of the top 10 rankings!! :thumb:

If the cats want Bleskin to run the ball Prukop will get his chance sooner than later. The play book just shrunk. That's not a diss just the truth. Kirk and Johnson will and should handle the run game. Bleskin is more a pocket guy with a good arm. Remember he had neck surgery as a sr. In high school and could ill afford becoming a running qb. He's capable but not anywhere near the caliber of McGhee.

Is Bleskin an athletic QB similar to DM? I ask because having a QB that can avoid pocket pressure and move around a bit really helps that O-line. And if they're used to a QB that can move it seems to back fire pretty bad if you get one that isn't as mobile.

Bleskin is very athletic. He can run. He knows the offense just as good as DM. Tim Cramsey the OC said Bleskin gets things right 99.9% and that he is the most intelligent QB he has coached in his over 20 yrs. He is not the runner DM is but he has good speed. He has a really accurate arm. I don't think they are going to modify the playbook and be more conservative as the coaches feel comofrtable that he will do the job. I imagine the first few series they may, to get him off to a positive start but then they will let him go. Anyway, he has the opportunity and we will all see on Saturday how he handles it.

Being he's stepping in to replace the 10th best Quarterback in the Big Sky, he doesn't really have to do that well to "make the grade" in Bozeman, does he.

Ask anyone who has watched practices and scrimmages this spring and in fall camp and I think they will tell you different. He will have the same options DM had in the spread offense. He can make all the throws and is very good rolling out and in the pocket. In no way am I saying he will be running the ball all over the place as he doesn't need to when you have good RBs like Kirk and Johnson. But, he will have the option when it is prudent and he will do okay.

Would you go as far as to say Bleskin is better than McGhee as a passer?

What I see is the cats really under estimating McGhee's impact while in a football game. He is pretty good. Heck on bcn they are saying Bleskin is Dickenson like  He's a backup qb without any live game experience. He won't have any for two weeks. We'll see but this was a very unfortunate injury.

Actually it was his high school coach Jack Johnson who made the comparison back in 2009.

"They" are not saying he is Dickenson like. One poster said in high school he showed some of the same Dickenson-like qualities. But go ahead and paint with a broad brush, whatever makes anyone that roots for the Cats look bad.

Agree nzone, you never know until a player plays in a real game. The coaches think he is well prepared and should do well. We will see how good he is on Saturday. I would no way describe Bleskin as Dickenson like. That has to be a joke. Nobody has filled Dickensons shoes by a long shot since he graduated. He is one of the all-time greats.

Stopped by a couple Cat practices this fall and was able to watch both NcGhee and Bleskin. We all know what Mr. McGhee is capable of, just dont under estimate Mr. Bleskin. Strong accurate arm in the pocket, while accurate, and more mobile than most here believe him capable, when flushed from the pocket. Just not certain how he will hold up under game day pressure.

To address the whole playing up, playing down debate:

As a high school coach:
1. You don't want to lose players ever.
2. You don't want to lose a player in a game against an inferior opponent as much as you don't want to lose a player against a superior opponent.
3. More than anything else, you don't want to lose a player in a game that doesn't count. Conference games carry more weight than non conference games.

I don't think it changes much at the college level. A lot of programs are not so deep to handle the loss of a star playing like McGhee. Regardless of whatever coaches may or may not being saying, this would be Ash's worst nightmare. Losing your quarterback, your heart and soul of your program, is not quantifiable. Prukop and Bleskin are talented QB's, they should be or they wouldn't be there, but you aren't just replacing statistics.

Now, MSU is behind the 8 ball, because regardless of what quarterback takes the helm, Bleskin or Prukop, is going to have one heck of a steep learning curve over the next weeks. Heck either of those guys might be the second coming of McGhee and MSU may never miss his statistical presence. I would measure a guess is that MSU is going to struggle, because few players can step on the field in the college game as a quarterback and not experience the difficulties of playing that position.

The season's outcome, albeit a bit mature, may be cast for MSU by a last ditch hope to win a game that didn't matter. I am not criticizing Ash cause I would have done the same, to try to seal a victory but at the same time one cannot begin to fathom the enormity of that attempt on MSU's fate as well as the rest of the BSC's fate for the remainder of the season.

Best of luck the McGhee in his rehab. I do hope he returns healthy as soon as he can.

I wish McGhee the best in his recovery and hope he gets back on the field. As far as Ash and the coaches comments about Bleskin, Procup and whoever else they may be considering. What do you expect them to say? They are going to spin this as a case of reloading and not replacing the heart and sole of the cats. Do you honestly expect Ash to say something like "Ya we have this Bleskin kid to fill in. He is not as dynamic as DM and has not had enough reps but he will start despite that." That would never happen. Ash is putting as positive spin as he can on a very negative situation.
I really hope the backups preform well.

Lets put it this way..all those pro scouts that hung around Bozeman will make other plans. Anyone who thinks losing McGhee isn't a huge setback is naive.

unless of course DM was as terrible as people here have been saying for years. we're constantly being told how bad he is. pretty sure there is a thread already this years showing he's barely a top 10 big sky qb. if all that is true we'll be just fine...

The injuries are really adding up for the Cats. This is never good. I wish each and every one of them speedy recoveries.

Let the panicking begin in Bozo.

Hope DM has a speedy recovery. He's a good guy!

No panic in Bozeman. We have a #2 that is well prepared, smart, very talented and has an excellent, accurate arm. We also have a good #3 in Prukrop. Bleskin gets an opportunity to show what he can do. I feel confident he will step-up.

While I concur that the m cats back-up QBs are pretty good, it's one thing to "look good" in practice with your own team where the defenders aren't coming after you to rearange your face. You can''t simulate game day during the week. The back-ups have yet to prove anything in a game, time will tell. (although i suspect they do a good job at times)

Ash said last night on the news that DM was out indefinitly, "for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 weeks?" That his return is a "moving target".

Uh-oh

Sweet Jesus...they're dropping like flies. :| :| :|
First their LBs then their QB (of all players to go down) now their playmaking receiver? Is it ever gonna end? I wonder if this was caused from playing up? And if NDSU woulda caused the same problems?
