"Committed" to Oregon State but didn't go there so only one school but two commitments. So she seems a little confused. Played well this year until she got hurt.

The "Shannon treatment" comment comes up often but haven't yet heard specifics. There could be any number of reasons for this decision. One of them could be coaching.

She only gave a verbal commitment to Oregon State which really isn't a commitment since nobody needs to honor it. Oregon State didn't honor it. If Oregon State did, Mayhue would have been playing for Oregon State instead of the Lady Griz this year. So, Mayhue was not confused at all, she just got screwed by Oregon State.

I just wonder if Mayhue kind of became pissed off for losing her starting role. I was kind of confused, too, since she actually was playing pretty well for a true freshman at the time she lost the starting role.

Didn’t she play a ton, start some games, and was 6th man (or woman) a ton until she got hurt. Once she was hurt it was a season ended for her.

Mayhue started in 6 of the first 7 games. Averaged double figures. Mayhue replaced Madi Schoening after Madi was lost for the season.

She was a very good and promising player until she got hurt. Ended up 5th on the team in scoring. It will be a huge bummer if she departs, as she would have become a terrific player for the LG. She was already close to that this year.

If Shannon is or is not a tyrant or not doesn’t matter to me. Three losing seasons in a row and a horrible over all record does.

For those reasons alone she should be cut loose. And IF it is true that her players are tired of her belittling ways / how she coaches. Then even more reason to shit can her.

Yes I am aware....my question was pertaining to your statement above about losing her starting job....I was thinking she only lost her starting job once she got hurt. Are you saying she lost it before that? I was confused with your statement.

Shannon was a great player for the Lady Griz and a great assistant coach. Maybe she’s not ready to be a head coach she seems to have a lot of issues with the girls judging by the amount of turnover this program is getting. Also look at the women’s volleyball program a young head coach losing record and lots of turnover, what’s going on here?

Mayhue played in 17 games. So yes I am.

Mayhue played in 17 games, started 8 games. Last 2 were to replace a player (Johnston) who had to go to a wedding and an injured player (Gologoski). She lost her starting position to Gabi after the Grand Canyon game (game 7). Mayhue was the ONLY player to be able to compete with Arizona, a game they lost 100 - 51.

Hooked, you are correct. She started the game that she was initially hurt and missed time. She tried to come back, and did play sparingly in 3 games later, but the injury was a factor and led to her missing the remainder of the season.

So, did Mayhue injure her foot in the Grand Canyon game? Because after that game, Gabi Harrington took her place in the starting lineup. And Mayhue played 20 to 30 minutes a game after that as a sub.

I think the game you are referring to, Mayhue only started because of the injury to Gologoski.

hmmm, so you say she started the game that she got hurt...

You do realize that the only reason she started any games is because someone else was hurt.

How many LG games did you see in person?

Excuse me, you are the one that said she started the game she was initially hurt in.

yes, I do realize all her starts were due to an injury, but she also lost her starting role and not due to an injury. She replaced Schoening and started six games. She eventually was replaced by Gabi Harrington in the starting lineup after the Grand Canyon game and not due to any injury that I know of. And it is this point where I am wondering she was pissed off about losing her starting job.

She then got a start due to another player having to go to a wedding and then her last start was due to injury to another player.

I would assume that not starting would not sit well with any competitive athlete. But I will also add that it is my understanding that her decision to transfer was mainly based on other reasons.

If you want to wade in neck deep into shit-pool of politics of the program, by all means debate semantics all day.

Mayhue is leaving, after a year. She was clearly talented enough to play here, so it is appropriate to question precisely what the issue is. Whether it is with her, with the fit of the program or else where, it is appropriate to ask.

I do believe at this point with as many departures as there have been over the past three years, it is also appropriate to question what precisely is going on in the program. Is it with recruiting and evaluation? Is it the players? Coaching? Whether there is something nefarious going on, that is up to someone else to determine.

But I do believe it is pretty stupid to pretend everything is hunky dory right now.

katie Mayhue in the Transfer Portal? After suffering an injury that with any further establishment considered career threatening. Doesn't sound like a smart move.

Fear not, I forwarded this info of the turnover happening at the lady griz to your favorite author. Scandalous book is forthcoming.

Would a qb ever miss a game because someone was getting married? Would a football coach accept it of any player?

Why is it the treatment of players is only a women's sport thing? Or why are women is it brought up of women's teams so often yet you never hear of men's teams having this issue. UNC women's basketball is a recent example. I think even Pat Summit has had at times things similar brought up. Hall of fame coaches. Belgrade softball here in the state.

Not certain how up-to-date this info is... but Sac State, Idaho and MSU women's teams have players in the transfer (out) portal as well:

Idaho: Haley Blankenship (so.), Lauren Gustin (fr.)
MSU: Kamden Hilborn (fr.)
SAC St: Julynne da Silva (jr.), Hannah Friend (jr.), Anna Weibel (so.)

Putting your name in the transfer portal just opens yourself up for more options. Staying at UM is still an option.
