Absolutely agree!

They claim it was for "player safety." But ... are there any actual numbers to show that the KO return is that much more dangerous than an ordinary stretched-out play (like when a receiver goes for a lot of YAC)? I don't think so.

I think they removed (essentially) the KO return because it was a "wild card" that could change a game in one stroke. Coaches, and team management, are all about control, and a big return is something they cannot control. They few times it worked for their team didn't make up for the puke they felt when it works against them. Hence ... get rid of it.

Make it 5. I don't post as much as I used to, which is why I'm a little late to this thread, but I've been a Bears fan since the days of Sweetness and the 46 Zone...

And I'm thrilled that they signed MM...
 
I don't disagree with anything any of you said about changing the line for kickoffs -- it was stupid. But, I do love hearing Mariani's name again during NFL games. And, I do HATE the Cowboys.....

Yeah, but it's too bad Marc can't get to play for a decent team. These are not "Da Bears" -- they don't make plays on defense (that last Dallas TD should have been a pick), and seems like they shoot themselves in the foot on every other play when they're on offense.
 
Announcer just described Marc as "scrappy" as he returned the latest Dallas kickoff to the 32 yard line....it IS great to see him back on the field again.

And that was a minor miracle. Marc made the best of every block (sorta ... block), but even the Chi-Bear special teams don't seem to have any talent. Sad.
 
Just looked at the stats. Marc has over 100 yards on KO returns -- because the Cowboys (dammit!) are kicking Chicago's ass, so they have kicked off a lot.

So far, the Bears have forced (Ho Ho Ho ;) :?: ) one punt for Marc to return (which he did for 4 yards).
 
All right ... credit where credit is due. That was a nice on-side kick (although the Dallas guy should have made the grab, so you can't give too much credit).
