Marcus Knight to transfer or retire?

Nope. The QB for Coastal pulled his name out of the portal and is staying there and the WR from Sac that the Griz offered did the same.

These are examples of a kid entering the portal due to a head coaching change that pulled out after feeling comfortable with the new guy. I am not sure that you will find many examples of a kid entering the portal and returning to their old school when the coaching staff is not new.

Ya, perhaps, but the question was "schools welcoming back portal players". It's probably accurate to say most kids that enter the portal do not return to the same school with the same coach.

Yes I read an article on that. Some coaches handle it differently. Some rescind the scholarship and remove the player from the roster and all team activities immediately and make it known they are done. Others give a bit more of a grace period, but I don’t know of many (If any) are welcomed back by same staff.

I understand their perspective. I'd probably be the same way...you don't want to be here and think there are greener pastures elsewhere? Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!

I think in many cases they need to recruit a kid with that scholarship as a replacement.

As soon as a player's name is entered into the portal, the school is no longer forced to honor their scholarship, so if they do come back to the same school, they are not guaranteed that same scholarship again. This is again why the portal can be a big gamble for players, and one of the main reasons why kids that don't get the offer they were hoping for end up quitting altogether.
