Marcus Knight to the portal

Was an elite back. I hope he figures out what he wants and is able to make that work.

No one here knows the exact set of circumstances, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out he made a decision, got someone's attention, told them he was done and that conversation set in motion a series of events that lead up to what was this past Saturday, including Deck running on the field in the 21 jersey. No one misinterpreted what was said. But based on all the waffling since, it's possible someone changed their mind.

All this is, for all the world to see, is a distraction. No one needs that, this week of all of them, not when the team still has a shot at achieving some goals for this season. And I'll disagree all day about the value of missing someone who decided they don't want to be part of something anymore. They've got a group of guys who want to be there, and they'll be just fine handling the running back position.

It's one thing to enter the portal when the season is over...it's a whole other thing to go enter as the season begins to climax.

I wish him the best, but just can't get behind the timing of his decision. Reeks of selfishness IMO.
Yeah, pulling out as you begin climax almost never ends up working out.

Unfortunately Marcus was never the same following his injury, and he was able to read the writing on the wall. He was going to get lost in this backfield rotation, particularly with Eli playing next season.

All the best to him.

Gilman looks really promising!

I feel a bit bad for Knight. He was a great player, and I heard he's a good kid. It's too bad he got injured and too bad it wasn't working out for him this year like he wanted. I wish he could have at least finished the season. I don't think it's a good thing to advertise that you plan to transfer when you're still on a team. I assume coaches and even teammates don't like that. Don't think he dad was helping the situation either, from what people posted on what he had said. I wish him well. I think he's got a good chance of making big noise next year after a change of scenery. I assume most of Griz Nation will be rooting for him.

You might not be able to share but if your can, and I know you talk to a lot of parents and coaches. Did they share anything about the situation that shed light on the conversation?

I haven't talked to any parents, but his dad's (now deleted) tweets on the subject painted a picture of a guy who was frustrated and likely thought his son wasn't getting a fair amount of opportunities. It's really too bad, but we had the exact opposite problem from last year: an absolute abundance of riches at that position (and still do), so there was probably always gonna be an odd man out.

I hope Marcus lights it up wherever he ends up. He had one of the greatest RB seasons in school history, so we should always be thankful he decided to come here.

100% agree, thought he was a stud, reminded me of the older Calhoun, also a Cali guy who could ball. Was just asking because I know from his posts that Hoops knows more insiders and coaches than many others on here and thought if he heard something he could share it would be enlightening.

Should the Griz have retired #21?

Yes, in honor of Yo Humphrey, the greatest RB in Griz history. 6,000+ yards of total offense and 62 career TD’s if the FCS would ever pull their heads out of their asses and retro add everyone’s pre-‘02 playoff stats. 2,600+ total yards and 26 TD’s his Sr season in ‘01, the last year post season stats were not included.

With the 2 playoff years of stats that Chris Snyder didn't get, I think he'd be the all time points leader in FCS.

I do know a bit, but I'm going to keep my mouth shut.

Classy post and perfectly said. Was a bit bummed and bent out of shape after hearing the news. Thanks for reminding me of the way I should see it, as a Griz fan!

Who else can't wait for Semb to ask hauck about this on Monday? I know my popcorn is ready!

I bet it is. Griz Monday press conferences are like 70/30 #scumcat/Griz fan viewership. They just can’t quit us.

I’m sure you’re right. There are a couple defensive players that might be in that boat too.

If you ask nicely I'll share my popcorn.

They’ll get it done with the guys they got. And you heard it here first, Eli Gillman is going to have a monster career at UM.

Take a look for yourself.

You are the 100,000th person to have said this. 🙄

Yep, the dude got slower for sure. The added weight didn't help his speed/athleticism at all.
