I'm well aware that having11 or 12 seeds face off in play-in games is not new. Should have said: "I've never understood why teams good enough to get a seed that high have to square off early."HelenaHandBasket said:

First of all: What's wrong with populating the play-in games with the weak sisters? (And, yes, they would all be auto-bids from the bottom conferences.) Have they earned anything better? Should a team good enough to rate an 11 or 12 seed be required to play an extra game, on shorter notice than most of the rest of the field?fanofzoo said:
Not sure what you (zoo) mean about the NIT as "it used to be." I see no way a pure post-season "Invitational" could ever compete for attention versus the "Big Dance." Actually, I rather like the current arrangement that makes the bid a reward for a successful regular season when things don't go right in the conference tournament. (Don't get me started on the conference tournaments.)
