March Madness Is Officially Underway!

Two more tournaments start up today.

You all might of heard of one of them.

Big Sky: Northern Arizona won the regular season title (which everybody knows). A couple of wins for Montana would be nice for their RPI. Especially if they can play NAU for the conference title and pick up a big road win against a 20+ win team. That would increase their RPI to the low 60's.

I also think everybody probably knows the matchups. :thumb:

Mid-Continent: Oral Roberts won the regular season title. There are no teams out of this conference that would be seeded ahead of Montana.

Tournament in Tulsa, OK

#8 Western Illinois vs #1 Oral Roberts
#7 Oakland vs #2 IUPUI
#6 Chicago State vs #3 UMKC
#5 Southern Utah vs #4 Valparaiso

I could see it happening very easily since Gonzaga is in and the other teams have a lot more to play for. I don't think it would happen until the championship though.

imo. no matter what happens in the tourney, the zags are no worse than a 2 seed in the dance. do you agree?

If they lose in the championship, yes. If they lose in the semi-final it might hurt them. Plus, their early big wins don't look as big anymore. It'll be interesting to see where the committee seeds them. I think they could fall to a 3 or 4 even if they win the tournament. But a 2 seed is probably a good bet.

Does anyone know where the Atlantic Sun Champion will be seeded. Lipscomb or Belmont will probably be seeded around a 15 or 16 I figure but I didn't see any note of it on ESPN's Bracketology. Did Joe Lunardi screw up and put in one extra team or did I just overlook them?

Winthrop clinches the 2nd trip to the dance as they defeated Coastal Carolina 51-50 in a really good game. Winthrop should be seeded around where the Griz are, in the 14's I think. Cincinnati also improved its chances with a win over West Virginia. Unlike the last few years more teams are winning to improve their chances rather than more teams losing and trying to hang on to their bubble without popping it.

I would see Winthrop as a minimum 14 seed. With a win over Marquette and close games at Alabama, South Carolina and Auburn - they could be a nice upset pick.

Lunardi has Lipscomb listed as the play-in game. The Atlantic Sun champ is going to be hoping for some conference tourney upsets. Right now the SWAC, Northeast, Southern and Atlantic Sun are battling it out for the play-in game.

If Davidson doesn't win the Southern, that team would be in the play-in game. If Southern doesn't win the SWAC, that team would be in the play-in game.

I think the Atlantic Sun champ will probably be a 16 seed not playing in the play-in game.

Let me throw in the America East and MEAC as well. If Albany or Delaware State don't win their tourneys, those teams would be in the play-in game.

Holy cow! Thank goodness ESPN came back on. The Belmont/Lipsomb game was incredible and then the GW/Charlotte game was absolutely insane!!!

March Madness....I love it!

Belmont is headed to the NCAA tourney, Lipscomb to the NIT. Game went to OT, Lipscomb got a steal and had a shot at the buzzer, but didn't have enough in OT.

George Washington hit a 3 in the last seconds to send their game into OT. Then Charlotte had the game wrapped up and a player throws an elbow and GW got FT's and the ball back with 5.7 seconds left. Charlotte was up by 2, they hit 1 of their FTs, GW makes both of theirs and they get a tip in to win at the buzzer. Wow.

Samford is piddling down their leg out of the half, down 44-35 after a 10-2 run by Murray State. Hopefully they can pull it together.

Murray State takes the Ohio Valley fairly easily. Samford didn't look like a very good team. All they did was bomb 3's the whole game and you can't plan on winning games that way.

Murray State is a tough call. They've got a very similar schedule strength and RPI as Montana. It would be pretty much a toss up between those two when it comes to seeding.

A couple of conference championships going on right now. The Missouri Valley Conference is on CBS, and the Southern Conference is on ESPN2.

Bradley takes on Southern Illinois for the guaranteed MVC bid. Really this was the best way for the MVC to get the most teams in. I don't know if Southern Illinois is safe yet. I think Bradley has got to be in with their run going into the postseason. If the Salukis win today, I think the MVC gets 5 no question.

Chattanooga is playing Davidson in the Southern conference. Chattanooga would get the play-in game most likely. Davidson would be a 16 seed with the chance to bump up to a 15 if conference tourney upsets happen.

Davidson and Southern Illinois are the latest to punch their tickets.

Manhattan is in the NIT after their loss to St. Peter's today.

So, who is below the Griz in seeding right now, and who is above?

Here's how I think it would go if the favorites win out:

Play-In: Southern vs Fairleigh Dickinson
16's: Albany, Delaware State, Belmont
15's: Oral Roberts, Davidson, Pennsylvania, Pacific
14's: Montana, Iona, Murray State, Northwestern State
13's: Winthrop, Kent State, Wis-Milwaukee, Western Kentucky

Upsets in the Southland (Northwestern State), Sun Belt (Western Kentucky), West Coast (Gonzaga), Patriot (Bucknell) and Metro Atlantic (Iona) would help out Montana in the seeding.
