Marc Mariani Greatest Griz WR ever?

doesn't ferris have a super bowl ring?
i happened to sit next to Etu once for a game and he appeared to have some impressive ring(s) from his Arena days.
 
If I'm not mistaken, didn't Earhardt pretty much keep the NC game alive in 95??? Wasn't it a 4th down???
 
In my opinion, Marc is the greatest. I'm only 25, so I haven't followed the Griz for nearly as long as some of you, however, I can't imagine a better cinderella story than Marc. He came to the Griz as a walkon, and earned his scholorship the hard way; He went from walkon to All American! He always came through in clutch situations (i.e. vs SDSU). That game against SDSU is honestly one of the greatest comebacks I have ever witnessed, and it would not have happened without Marc. He made so many great plays in that game. I believe that his greatest attribute, however, was his ability to motivate those around him. I had the privilege of playing with him for a couple years in high school, and you could tell then that he was different from the rest. He was always the guy saying, "get better today!" That was his mantra, and it continued through college. He had a way of brining the best out of those around him. His passion was infectious. Lastly, he made the pro-bowl his rookie season in the NFL. Joe Douglas was great, however, he played in NFL Europa and the Arena football league. Marc beat the odds in college, and is beating the odds in the NFL. He is in my opinion, the best reciever to ever don the Griz uniform.

Yes, nice write up!! I will admit that The Comeback Game was probably the greatest comeback I have ever seen also. I've never seen any team comeback like that after being so far down with only 20 mins to play. WoW!! I think I'm gonna watch the highlight video now...

For sure, I'm onlu 10 years older than you but I grew up watching the Griz so my recollection starts in the early 90's when all the Griz did was pass the ball with the QB in the shotgun and 4 or 5 wide receivers on the field almost all of the time.

The early/mid 90's Griz has a crew that called themselves the 4 amigos. I think it was Wells, Erhardt, Cockhill... and I think Gurnesy was the 4th? Can't recall on the 4th. That was a great crew. Molden and Ferris with Joe Glenn's teams were incredible. Pacheco and Douglass in the mid/later 90's were also great WRs.

Not sure why, probably the system change, but the Hauck teams of 2003 - 2009 really only featured a few dominant WRs, Heidelberger who I think was actually a Joe Glenn recruit and Mariani. Other than those guys Bobby deferred to WRs that were more sound in blocking, had height advantages, etc - possession type receivers. Guys like Bagley, Allen, Talmadge, Palmer, Chambers, Ferriter, etc.
 
I don't want to even venture a guess at who was the greatest Griz WR ever. Honestly seems like an injustice to them all given the great teams over the years, different QB's and offensive schemes. I will say this - Mariani has a different engine. Coming back from the injury he received in the NFL. That take nads and some serious ones folks. The dude is a winner - period.

maybe, but "the answer" had one of the biggest drops in griz history, championship game, 1996. ah yat hits him in the chest in the end zone to "answer" marshall's opening drive behind the incomparable randy moss... we're on our feet cheering..oh no! joe drops it!!! big mo shifts, route on, rest history...bleak...bleak...

I don't care how many balls were dropped in that game. No one had an answer for the "FREAK" Randy Moss. He's a first round ballot H.O.F er and did it as a "one trick pony". :egriz:

With the addition of Etu Molden, this is a pretty good list. I'll go with Mariani for two reasons: (1) the phenomenal SDSU comeback, which he instigated and carried; and, (2) he was from Montana (unlike the other in the top four), and he is the only Blue Pony to do squat for the Griz. But I am admittedly biased.
