Good see a lot of Montana boys for both schools. I did this same analysis for both schools a few years ago and not only did UM have far more MT kids than MSU, MSU had almost as many kids from Cali as they did from MT. This was during Kramer's tenure and it sure made it easier to dislike the Kittens.

In one of Kramer's early years, when he "got rid of" many Montana players he thought weren't good enough to play for him, MSU had more players from California than from Montana. We were calling them Cal State Bozeman.

It's surprising how few Bobcat players are now from California. Ash obviously prefers the familiar Great Plains, and now there are more from Texas than California.

Hi oGriz.

May I post your maps on different forums? The two I am asking for are AGS and CS.com

Been involved with the usual CAA vs Big Sky pi$$ing match.

as a guy who was very close to the team during the kramer years i can say that what you have posted is only PART true. you guys did in fact have far more montana kids than we did. and we did in fact bring in some kids from california to replace some huys that we had, both from montana and other states. but the part that is misleading is where you stated that he "thought they weren't good enough". i can say with much certainty that in my memory i only recall three kids who got let go who could have made a case that they were the better player...and only 2 of them were from montana. here's the part that should be easy to understand. lets say that in any given year there were 10 kids with the ability to play 1aa ball in the state. the griz were getting 8-9 of nine of them. chances were always very good that the montana kids we did have were either playing, or they weren't good enough. it's not like kramer cast winning aside, and just insisted on playing california kids instead of the montana kids. the california kids were better! of course at um when you were getting the cream of the crop from the state, many of your guys were playing because they were better! kramer brought excitement back to the program, and more importantly for recruiting he beat the griz. then all of a sudden for every 10 montana kids the griz were getting 6-7 of them. it's no secret to say that the griz still get most of the best in-state kids, but i think it's fair to say the cats are closing the gap. but common sense says that a coach will play his best players, whether they are from montana or not.

I you could just as easily put Gratton in as a starter at WR instead of Jabin and that would give us 14 Montana starters. He and Jabin basically split reps on offense so take your pick.

Also I think we only have 3 Montana starters on the O-line. Verlanic, Dyk, Hillsland. And then I think Opperud and Horn start.

It will be interesting to see down the road how MSU's recent investment in Texas Recruits effects their program, positively or negatively............

So far so good, these kids he's bringing in are making our program better. We have some serious TX talent on this team... and only Freshmen and Sophs. Good students too from what I've heard. Ash is a smart SOB and he's not going to bring kids in here that could taint the program. You will get to see Lloyd, Gilbert, Palmer, Evans, Cunningham, Thomas, etc... in action in about 8 days. 8-)

Poor- we can't be looking ahead of ourselves too much...But I also am looking forward to the game in 8 days. Hopefully the Texas connection works out for you guys....only time will tell.

From what I've seen so far I would have to agree with poorgriz about the TX kids.

Lloys is from WA though, Others that you will see are Owens (LB) and Jones (CB) and I am looking forward to seeing McGhee (QB) next year, he looked pretty good at the scrimage

One of the benifits of the TX kids is that they have a vary good work ethic, they also seem to fit in pretty good with the MT kids in general attitude. Thanks to a former griz for opening up that pipeline, now I just wish Ash would let him start recruiting FL too.

Good maps, but the only thing that is way off is the kittens are not portrayed in their true color... Pink

Of course. BTW, I made an adjustment on the hometowns map (forgot to remove a Cat square from Ft Benton, thanks). I also tested out the states map in a bar this weekend and I decided to enhance that so the numbers are more readable.
