This is egriz, it won't be long before one of the trolls comes along and bashes me from one side or the other. Raider or AZgriz will be along shortly to correct me or alpha will tell me I am not a fan and then attack my family. Maybe Player will support me or maybe not who knows its all a joke anyway. Brint and player are the only guys that have information and their posts are good but the rest of you should think before you hit submit. It is why most readers don't post on here. Just wait a few minutes then I will be able to say I told you so.

You would be wise to heed your own advice.

I told you so, exhibit #1

Was the purpose of this post to provide information or bash Az, Raider, Alpha, etc.?

Raising money is not that hard if you have something to sell.

Ummmm...okaaaay.

Sounds like you could have a hell of a career working with the Foundation, G.
I could very easily put together $250,000 by lunch today if they had a clue. There is no way on gods green earth I would work for something so dysfunctional as the University of Montana is right now, but you are probably right I would have been good at that.

I didn't correct you. Just told you to follow your own advice.

There is no vision, no ideas and no plan in place to resolve these issues in the immediate future. It seems like the present objective is to woo possible recruits with a very small new building to just reapply the lipstick on the pig. If UM was really serious about improving facilities they would make a commitment to excellence and build an entire new building with a real academic center, parking, locker, weight and meeting rooms and attach it to the stadium there are many ways to achieve this and there is room if you are creative and put any amount of thought into it. Instead the current trend is to blow a wad of cash to build a 5000 sq ft building to fake us all into believing there is a commitment

But the thing is, there IS a vision. There IS a plan. There IS a committment.

New locker rooms and weight rooms are in the near-term plan. They are specificially mentioned in the UM 2020 Plan. I guess I don't understand why everyone thinks they're not on the board. Dislike Engstrom if you will, but at least after 20 years of neglect, he's taking steps to improve the internal facilities.

The problem isn't the plan. The problem is finding money to pay for it. If you have some suggestions on how to accomplish that, I'm sure the President's office would welcome your calll.

Why was the Academic Center higher priority than new weight and lockerrooms?

Why didn't the university put any funds toward the Academic Center? The article said it was all private money.

Is the university going to put any funds towards the weight room/locker rooms?

If the university doesn't put funds towards a project, that doesn't seem to show much "commitment" to the project, does it? If the university doesn't allow some of the athletic funds being siphoned off for university projects and unversity coffers, that also seems to undercut the university's commitment.

I agree that finding/raising the money is a large part of the equation.

Did MSU put university funds into its recent athletic building projects, like the stadium?

Giving lip service to athletics or one or more projects is not the same as actual commitment.

Why was the Academic Center higher priority than new weight and lockerrooms

Two reasons: (1) All of the money for the AC was privately donated and ear marked for the AC.
(2) UM runs a university with the stated intent on educating its student-athletes, not a football factory.

Why didn't the university put any funds toward the Academic Center? The article said it was all private money

See #1 above.

Is the university going to put any funds towards the weight room/locker rooms

It's all the university's money. There's an opportunity cost with everything.

If the university doesn't put funds towards a project, that doesn't seem to show much "commitment" to the project, does it? If the university doesn't allow some of the athletic funds being siphoned off for university projects and unversity coffers, that also seems to undercut the university's commitment.

See above. But whatever you say. No reason will change your mind.

It's all university money. But yes, state money was devoted via bonds.

Giving lip service to athletics or one or more projects is not the same as actual commitment.

Whatever you say. I'm just happy shit is getting built for athletics.

Again, why was the Academic Center higher priority than the weight/locker rooms? Your repsonse doesn't answer the question at all. The private funds could have been used for the weight room. Everyone knows that the primary mission of a university is to educate.

What's the all the university's money? What opportunity cost are you talking about? I don't know what you're saying. Money not yet donated for a project is not the university's money, and money donated with a restriction to use it for a particular purpose is not unrestricted money and not really the university's money.

It doesn't surprise me that you couldn't or wouldn't answer the questions.

Ha!!! Do you realize the circle you just talked yourself into!?!?

That was freakin' AWESOME. There's nothing for me to add cause there's no way I could top that!!

Like I said, I knew you couldn't or wouldn't answer the question of why the weight/locker rooms weren't higher priority than the academic center.

EverettGriz said:
I did precisely that. And then you confirmed it.

Not true. Here's the original question and your response:

My question: "Why was the Academic Center higher priority than new weight and locker rooms?"

Your response: "Two reasons: (1) All of the money for the AC was privately donated and ear marked for the AC.
(2) UM runs a university with the stated intent on educating its student-athletes, not a football factory."

Your responses didn't answer the question.

1. If the weight/locker rooms had been higher priority than the academic center, the fundraisers would have raised private funds for the weight/locker rooms. Whether funds are earmarked has little or nothing to do with the priority of a university; it's what the donor wants.

Also, it's not true that the funds were earmarked for the academic center. Most of them weren't. A huge chunk of the funds, like a million, were GSA funds, and were not earmarked for anything. Some of the other funds were not earmarked for the academic center. In fact, some of the funds were intended for the weight room, and the university had to persuade the donor(s) to use the funds for the academic center. The university had been raising money for several years for a "facility" fund, not an academic center.

2. Using your logic, a university would never allocate or allow private funds for athletics, because universities have "stated intent on educating its student-athletes". Universities allocate/spend funds on athletics all the time.

Now, either try to answer the question, or admit that you can't or won't.

Yes. The GSA matched funds specially donated to fund the AC. Why is this a difficult concept? The AC is much less expensive a project, easier to complete, and some donors felt it a priority over a weight room.

And no, using my logic academic centers would get priority over athletic spending. In order for your statement to be correct, it would have to be fact that the weight room was never going to get funded. An argument so ridiculous not even you could make it.

Now, admit I was right or just admit you're a pathetic troll.
