Perhaps this was an attempt at some spoofy humor. Mel Ott bears a striking resemblance to Mellott, don't you think?
Sport said:OK I’m caught, I confess, just trying to interject some levity into our obsession with “touchdown Tommy”. Young man seems to have a bright future with our little brother to the East. One game does not make a legend and a comparison to Dickinson is conjecture at best. Both schools have had outstanding athletes through the ages. Super Dave had success for 3+ years, Tommy for one game. Now that NDSU has the tape from the semifinal game you can bet they’ll be ready for the young QB from Butte. If he can duplicate his performance against the Bison his stock will greatly increase. Until then he’s just another upstart freshman QB until he can prove otherwise. Not knocking him but his body of work is yet to be proven.
Reason for my attempt at levity was the name “Mellot “ had a familiar ring and the best I could come up with was “Mel Ott” the famous catcher for the Dodgers.
Sentiment in the right place ... humor is (almost) always a good thing. And I think most would agree that anointing Mellot as a superstar is more than a bit premature. Still, the execution fell a bit short.Sport said:OK I’m caught, I confess, just trying to interject some levity into our obsession with “touchdown Tommy”.
