LadyGriz LG versus Idaho State

Ditto to everything that has been said. This looked like an entirely different team today than last week. A group of young women playing well, executing, having fun and enjoying being Lady Griz.
Yes Sir!! Im excited again. They have Talent, and Hos was a great recruiter, but couldn’t coach them? Just my opinion though.

Happy to see Nate Harris succeeding so far, you would do very well to strongly consider him as the permanent coach. He's an excellent coach and was a big part of MSU finally breaking through and starting to win some championships in the last decade after Selvig retired, and also did very well as a head coach down in Texas.

Don't want to slander the coach "on leave," but in two games this GrizWBB team has taken a 180-degree pivot... the proof of which (to me) is in both games' box scores and in Nate Harris' quotes in this morning's GoGriz story on Montana's thrashing of ISU.
In short: Player management and Game management by Harris and his assistants. First, read the box score, the most significant stat of which is that no Griz played more than 27 minutes... but 10 played between 14 and 27 minutes and ALL of them scored. Add: 19 assists to 9 turnovers (2-to-1 ratio), 9 steals (forcing 14 ISU turnovers) AND that Montana outscored ISU in all 4 quarters.
What was not in the box score was that the players had the coaches' full support, and that NO player was yanked because of an on-floor mistake.
In the story, Harris' quotes say it all. Here's the link: https://gogriz.com/news/2025/1/18/womens-basketball-montana-rolls-to-second-straight-win

Allow me, though, to post a couple of Harris quotes:
"Aby (Shubert) is a great example of what happens when you remove everything else and just play basketball," said Harris. "She was a little bogged down mentally. Is this a good shot? Is this a good shot?
Fire away. You're a shooter. Anytime you're thinking about anything other than making shots as a shooter, you're going to struggle. When you get people feeling like that, it makes offense a lot easier."

AND:"I said it on Thursday. The kids get the credit," said acting head coach Nate Harris. "They're the ones who go out and do the things and run up and down and make good decisions. We try to put them in good spots but they make the plays. I'm so proud of their ability to stick together and find a way to make plays for each other."

Two games is not, however, a legit turnaround. The proof of that will be when (or if) this team starts playing tougher defense. I believe there were signs of that, but some tough games ahead will be the acid test.

But yesterday this team WOKE UP the Griz fans (you know, all of us who are still breathing... I hope, adverts for the Springs). The players picked up on the electricity. Want proof? Well, the excellent game photos clearly illustrate how much fun the kids had... AND how much they respect Harris.
Go GrizWBB.

I'm with you GrizJournal. its looking more and more like Holsinger may have been the problem. Hope his distraction passes quickly and that Harris and Woolley and the the rest of the staff take over from here on out. There is a ton of talent on this team. Next two games will give us a good idea of where they are at. Idaho is small but really well coached, and MSU is really long and also well coached. Should be an interesting week.

Okay, okay - I know this is the LG thread but, you’ve gotta wonder if this is the biggest problem with the Men’s offense. How many times have we heard TDC talk about “passing up good shots for great ones.”?

Seems like he has that rule for everyone except ONE (or maybe 2 during the Rorie/Oguine years) player. I have to wonder if that may be the reason the men’s side rarely sees shooters improve during their time at UM - or in some cases regress.

I knew Charlie Yankus back in the day. He told me every time he went up to shoot it was in the back of his mind "is this a shot I'm supposed to take" and "if I miss, I will be back on the bench".
