Don't want to slander the coach "on leave," but in two games this GrizWBB team has taken a 180-degree pivot... the proof of which (to me) is in both games' box scores and in Nate Harris' quotes in this morning's GoGriz story on Montana's thrashing of ISU.
In short: Player management and Game management by Harris and his assistants. First, read the box score, the most significant stat of which is that no Griz played more than 27 minutes... but 10 played between 14 and 27 minutes and ALL of them scored. Add: 19 assists to 9 turnovers (2-to-1 ratio), 9 steals (forcing 14 ISU turnovers) AND that Montana outscored ISU in all 4 quarters.
What was not in the box score was that the players had the coaches' full support, and that NO player was yanked because of an on-floor mistake.
In the story, Harris' quotes say it all. Here's the link:

Allow me, though, to post a couple of Harris quotes:
"Aby (Shubert) is a great example of what happens when you remove everything else and just play basketball," said Harris. "She was a little bogged down mentally. Is this a good shot? Is this a good shot?
Fire away. You're a shooter. Anytime you're thinking about anything other than making shots as a shooter, you're going to struggle. When you get people feeling like that, it makes offense a lot easier."
AND:"I said it on Thursday. The kids get the credit," said acting head coach
Nate Harris. "They're the ones who go out and do the things and run up and down and make good decisions.
We try to put them in good spots but they make the plays. I'm so proud of their ability to stick together and find a way to make plays for each other."
Two games is not, however, a legit turnaround. The proof of that will be when (or if) this team starts playing tougher defense. I believe there were signs of that, but some tough games ahead will be the acid test.
But yesterday this team WOKE UP the Griz fans (you know, all of us who are still breathing... I hope, adverts for the Springs). The players picked up on the electricity. Want proof? Well, the excellent game photos clearly illustrate how much fun the kids had... AND how much they respect Harris.
