The culture behind this program is completely lost. It is embarrassing and downright sad as someone who has followed this program for years to watch these talented young women play so uninspired, without joy, and without the heart that built the foundation of what Lady Griz basketball is about. Makes me question whether Nate Harris was the right man for the job. The breeding of good culture starts at the top and it has done nothing but plummet this season under Harris and it is very clear when watching.

What do you think the biggest difference has been in terms of culture this year compared to Nate’s interim time?
Losing Bruno/Bartsch was probably a tough loss from a leadership perspective. Not sure who those leaders are on this year’s team.
Side note: anyone know why Lincoln isn’t getting minutes this year? I thought she was fantastic at defense/shooting last year. Shubert can be good offensively when she’s on… but she was -24 on plus minus the other night.
Maybe not a popular opinion but I think hiring Nate full time just case he made a run in the. Conference tourney was a mistake, victim of the moment and not actually thinking what is best for the program long term.
Just my two sense but I never thought he should of been hired, hope he the lady Griz prove me wrong
This in some ways this is a rebuild year, newer coach and staff, big influx of new players, so team culture has to start somewhere and evolve thru time. These days we get new players mostly well experienced, then we ask for commitment. In times past we formed teamwork and leadership that evolved from frosh to senior development. What might have happened to our nucleus if for instance had Macy Huard stayed on board? Good example about the portal influence and player mobility, impacts on team.
Agreed! I was one of the only ones during the tourney run last year that said we should not just hand him the job cause they got hot, and I got absolutely lambasted for it. I hope he turns it around but the biggest problem for this team was the brutal non-conference schedule they played. 5 teams in the Top 50 of the NET rankings? That’s a great way to shatter your confidence! There’s a lot of ball to be played but this year might be a wash for the LG.
I agree that the non-conference schedule was brutal. That was a mistake by Coach Harris given all the new faces he had to work with. And 4 home games through the first two months of the season--FOUR! They haven't had a home game since December 6.
In defense of Nate, he was not hired until mid-March. He lost 3 great players thru graduation: Dani, MJ (Marjorie-Jean), and Tyler. His first order of business was to recruit his returning players. He got a VERY late start on the Portal when the "pickings' were poor and honestly did not come close to replacing the talent of the graduating seniors. His recruiting class for next year (26-27) looks solid, and I am hopeful that he will be able to supplement that with an early start on Portal additions.

Great insights about the portal/time of the hiring. It made me think how important it was for him to keep Mack and Avery. If those two got plucked from the portal this past spring… yikes.

I wonder how many of the players we have will be gone in the portal once the year is over? Just watched the UNC basketball game and they looked horrible in the second half. But I noticed is the point guard driving into the basket getting double team turning the ball over and then UNC scored another basket. It seemed like Montana’s offense consist of one person driving into the basket and four other people standing around watching. Those are just my observations.

A new hire in D1 deserves four years. Unless there's something obvious (like last season). Give these coaches the standard amount of time to build culture and a competitive team.
Have you been watching this team this year? deserves Four years? people we are 3-10 last in the Big Sky, with the portal changing teams every year, they don't build teams in 3 or 4 years any more, its every year you’re rebuilding. Been watching LG basketball for over 30 years, in all that time I’ve never watched a LG team that looks as bad as the LG play. Playing top 25 teams and losing by 20-30 points is one thing, play conference opponents and losing by 20 is unacceptable!

Stats for the game: https://gogriz.com/sports/womens-basketball/stats/2025/northern-colo-/boxscore/6342 What I am observing so far this season: 1) inconsistent scoring 2) offense set on perimeter 3pt shooting that is not working 3) Rebounds off missed 3pt shots not happening. 4) inconsistent defense, particularly not keying in on opponent high percent shooters. This is a team with lots of "shooters" problem is they are terribly inconsistent. If the team insists on running the perimeter 3 offense, and it's clearly not working at least have an alternate strategy. If they can't make the 3's, then at least rebound, got to have at least 2nd opportunities. Konig/pt guard forcing dribble drives up against a wall of bigs is unacceptable, as a senior pt guard that's not leadership, or smart play. Watching Konig's forced shots playing UNC was hard to take, I would have benched her, let Avery get that done. I am beginning to become more than skeptical about the overall quality of LG play including coaching. I catch myself wishing them at best only Good Luck!

Here's what I noticed from the 1st quarter. Lady Griz out of position defensively at times. They get caught in a position where they are not guarding anyone. Need to work on defensive rotations. On offense, need more offensive players who dribble penetrate to break down the defense and then kick to the perimter for the three point shot or pass to LG cutting to the basket. Need the LG to move more intentionally without the ball and make better decisions with the ball. Too many unforced turnovers.

2nd Quarter: Rae Ehrman is a bright spot on both offense and defense. You can tell she's is taking in the coaching and executing on it this year. When I watched Rae last year at Eden Prairie HS, she didn't look nearly as good as she is looking this year with the Lady Griz.
Lady Griz need to finish at the basket when they dribble penetrate and take it to the hoop. Out of bounds sets look out of rhythm with not enough screens/movement. I would set up a few screen the screener type of sets.

Terrible shooting %, miss the 3's poor rebounds, combined with your observations about defense. They can and do put it all together a game or two, maybe a quarter or two. Not a great picture...they'll need luck.

3rd quarter: At the start had one of the best offensive sets with multiple dribble penetrations which resulted in a wide open 3 point from the left wing. Abby Shubert goes out early with 4 fouls. Bears up the defensive intensity and the Lady Griz don't match the intensity. Lady Griz can put more defensive pressure on the ball but that might be due to a variety of reasons.

If you are not shooting well from the 3pt range, you need to work inside for layups. Get the defense to sink in to protect the paint and then build back out to the 3pt shot. And effort will often overcome poor shooting, especially on the defensive end.
