The bottom line is the Griz Offense will be as good as the offensive line allows. There is no evidence there will be improvement to the unit this season. None. The unit was under recruited and wrongly recruited for going on 5 seasons or more.
I get the positive attitude...hope and desire for excellence. But, there is a reason the coaches and media picked the Griz where they did...schedule and under skilled and unproven offensive line.
I think the offense will be good enough when paired with the defense, which I do think will be better than last season.
Success to me will be...a chance for the playoffs with a brawl win.
There is lots of evidence the o-line will be better. Please pay attention.
You gonna post some measurables? How about some personal observations from a few spring practices? Or, maybe quote a few coaches who are optimistic? Perhaps you'll mention something about a couple of transfers or underclassmen yet to play a snap?
Is this what I should be paying attention to?

There is going to be better chemistry, they are a year removed giving way to more time to “grow”, and the coaching staff(who all return) know them and the players know what’s expected of them. These young men have been working hard to be better and they will be better. Much better! Talking with Hauck he did say the team will go as far as the line takes them but he also gave a little smile, smirk if you will. Not only will this make the offense that much better but will challenge and make the defense that much better. It’s just crazy to think this line won’t be light years better than last year.
With that said this team better learn how not to make critical mistakes at important times in a game. Turnovers absolutely destroyed this team last year. We had Western Illinois beat until a fumble, Portland State I believe we fumbled the opening snap which killed any mojo, Curran fumbling stretching for a first down, Sneed fumbling giving the msu the go ahead touchdown, and the infamous Eastwood fumble on the one yard line to give the cats an ugly win. This stuff needs to stop! This team limits those mistakes they are going to be hard to stop...

Yes. The o-line looked much better in practices, and in scrimmages. They are big. About 10 300 or over. They are generally tall. Strength numbers have improved. There are a lot more lineman on the roster this year, and there are seniors (unlike last year). Germer is a very good coach. He and other coaches are optimistic. There are 2 transfers, perhaps 3 counting the Butte qb. The younger guys are said to be pushing for playing time this fall.
What do you base this comment of yours on? I assume absolutely nothing.
"There is no evidence there will be improvement to the unit this season."
I was addressing what I thought was a baseless and uniformed comment. Thus, "pay attention". There is lots of evidence out there. Some is on egriz. Going to practices and talking to coaches helps too.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. That's how the game plays out. Absolutely no guarantees the same bad things won't happen in 2019. Can't make excuses for what DID happen.

Ok, good. I am now tuned into the measurables, and how people feel about the O-Line after spring ball and right before fall camp. I wonder if other fan bases fell pretty good about their favorite teams during this time of the summer? I am especially excited about younger guys pushing seasoned guys...because of all the years of growing and getting stronger the upperclassmen have had in the program with the same coaches...A tall order for the young guys for sure. Lastly, you betcha on the transfers...probably got a couple All-Americans on board! Anyway, it feels good to pay attention.

Support? What kind of support? Are we talking monetary support? Lower back support?
I don't come to eGriz for support...
You didn't post evidence...you posted observations and feelings. There won't be any evidence of improved o-line play until the Griz get a few games into the season. We'll see. Many are optimistic.
You're a lawyer...post like one.
I'm bowing out if this...don't want this decent football thread derailed in yet another pissing contest with you leading the charge.

Only because I believe a more diverse use of the TE rather than 90% blocker will provide additional alternatives and make the offense less predictable.
SoldierGriz said:I will keep this football focused:
BW posted a projected 2 deep for the o-line.
Beaver and Keintz had 11 starts last season.
Martin had 4.
Simon had 9.
Pollans had 0.
This accounts for 34/55 possible starts last season for BWs projected upcoming season starters.
Add in Angel V's starts and you're up to 41/55 possible. Meyer's starts make up most of the difference (10) for 51/55; he is obviously gone.
Welnel had 0 - played in 11...not sure where?
Anderson had 0 - played in 3.
Hart had 0.
Saint had 0 - played in 1.
Pollans and Mallory are new and unproven.
Right now, this unit is essentially last year's o-line with additions and back ups that have essentially no or limited experience.
I am not as optimistic as many...I think they will be average to start the year. I do know BH has a knack for developing talent and generating in-season improvement. So, perhaps they elevate to good as the season progresses.
Many believe experience and off season work is magical. I don't. I think these guys are who they were. Hart, Pollans, and Mallory may be the key, but who knows. Perhaps Angel V. Is fully healed up. We'll know after first 3 games or if this unit can contribute to RTD - and not before that.

I get what you’re saying & it may shake out that way. I think the only reason they became somewhat predictable was because they couldn’t muster a normal running game against almost anyone. With Rosenbach running the show, I think what you’re going to get is matchups. Think back to the Sac State game. They were missing their AC DEnd, and Rosie didn’t think the two kids they had in there could hold contain on the edge. He runs Sneed outside the tackles, on a fake pitch play in one case, and he goes for 200+. They run inside on CPSLO, throw the ball downfield on Idaho and so on. If Rosie finds a weakness, he’s going at it. So yeah, it would be great if Bingham, Rensvold and Deming et.al., can be the difference makers, but the reality is that he’ll go to where the receiver is open, by design or because they’re one of the options in the progression.
