Last Quarter Century BigSky Conf. Success Comparison

No Hammer, I don't think the Griz lack depth this year. You have a very talented team this year. I am talking about next year and the effect of four years of the loss of four schollies. And, you may think the Cats Ol and defense sucks but they are both loaded. Let the season begin!

These stats certainly scream Griz dominance in the Big Sky, but do they scream Griz Greatness? Certainly 7 NC appearance is very good, but 2-5 in those games is more mediocre than great. Two NC's good, but not great in 7 attempts. But you also have to look at the teams that Montana played in those games . . . many have moved on to FBS, some very good competition. How often have the Griz had a clean BSC record and a #1 seed for a relatively easy bracket until the semis? Many times due to a relatively weak BSC, and very good Griz teams with few losses.

Do the stats in the past quarter century speak to the Griz greatness vs. the FCS, or relative weakness by the rest of the Big Sky vs. the FCS? I have to say that Montana has faced a relatively weak Big Sky during this stretch, but 19 consecutive does speak for itself. Dominating BSC football? Yes Domination of Resources vs. the rest of the BSC? Yes, for sure.

I do believe that the rest of the Big Sky has climbed up to more closely join the Griz in the last 5 years, and the rest of the Big Sky has climbed up to compete more strongly on a national level too. I also feel that the strength of FCS football has clearly shifted from the east to the west, and this shift will be further solidified with some of the FCS exits in the SoCon and CAA. The Big Sky, with multiple teams, will share in the west's dominance in the foreseeable future.

For an outsider, it's actually refreshing to see a Big Sky where 5 teams are all capabile of winning the conference title . . . vs. being assured the Griz would win it, and tryng to figure out what other team would finish 2nd. Maybe Griz dominance will return in the BSC, but I'm impressed with the FB being played at Mt St, EWU and CP.
good post, only you forgot to mention the NAU Lumberjacks at the end.

Nzone, next season is just around the corner. Glad you have confidence in your program which you should. I only give an opinion based on experience. When you lose four schollies a year for four years, that really hurts. Especially since they break schollies into partials. It crushes your depth. Any program has to worry about tomorrow, thats a faact of life. I am sure your coaches are really worried about tomorrow, it does mean their jobs. I haven't mentioned severe consequences. I just look at things objectively. Like I said, the Griz have a really talented team this year. I hope the coaches can bring it to its potential. You can't deny that your fans are skeptical of the coaching . Yes, it's only opinions.

So you think the Griz roster lacks depth and I think the kitty OL and defense sucks and they will have at least 4 conf losses. Both just opinions and yours is no more valid than mine. Time will tell.
really?
what 4 games?

at North Dakota
NORTHERN ARIZONA
at Weber State
UC DAVIS

Success? I looked again at the Griz postseason record book. Of the 51 playoff games the Griz have played since 1982, a grand total of 3 were won on the road or at a neutral site. That's 3 wins in 15 games. The Griz have 35 home playoff games and 2 national championships. Congratulations on your amazing dominance.

I suppose ewoooooo might actually get a home playoff game if the "stadium" held more than the average junior high field.

Oh wait. They did have a home playoff game. And even then they were begging Montana fans to come over for the game so that it wouldn't be empty.

Face it. You've been pretty good. But Montana is on an ENTIRELY 'nuther level. The smart people here get that.
I was at that playoff game and i have to say i was not impressed. The crowd was really quiet for the size, There was dirt everywhere!, and I seemed more interested in the game than most of the cat fans.

side note: Mcghee was not impressive at all in that game, i like the guy as a person but i think hes way overrated as a player.

Just makes you recruit smarter. Colt Anderson, Marc Mariani and Chase Reynolds (among others) all came to the Griz as non scholarship players. All three are now in the NFL. The gems are out there, you just have to find them.

Our recruiting will be just fine, especially after the upcoming season.

Ok buddy. We all know, after you have posted the exact thing several times in every thread, that you are terribly worried about the griz in coming years. Well we aren't, and I don't think posting the same thing a hundred more times is going to get anyone, other than maybe 2506 and his cankles to jump on your theory's bandwagon. You only sound like a jealous and worried kitty fan.

North Dakota. NAU. EWU. MONTANA..... Why did Cramsey(sp) leave Florida Int'l after 1 season?
head coach was let go.

UND, even on the road I would still have to give the Cats the edge, it wasnt even close last year (55-10) and the Cats have an improved Ol and not much of a drop in D in most positions.

NAU, given it is in Bozeman, I give the Cats the edge, but expect a close game.

EWU, well Adams doesnt want to see the Cats again, I am sure he has had nightmares about that game, it shook him pretty bad, we gave that one away and will have a chip on our shoulder about that one, and the Cats are unbeaten on the red turf.

UM, c'mon man, booger will blow this one before the first quarter is over, you don't have the '11 defense and that good D coordinator any more either, It will be fun but the Cats will prevail, JJ has no weapons to help him out. No one that seriously studies the game could pick the fizz in that one given what we know today.

Wow. This is why, although I don't think they're a top 3 BSC team, the cats will contend for a title and will waltz into the playoffs. That is about as easy a schedule as one could draw up. What it really needs is some top playoff contenders other than ewoo and MONTANA. I wonder why someone like GSU, SHSU or NDSU wasn't scheduled.

Oh wait a minute....

Fact is if you cry parity anyone can win on any given Sat. Man are you arrogant! Right now we are looking at App St.

alpha thinks the same. any chance you guys would like a wager on that one? I just don't see the cats losing 4 conference games this season.

After reading the start of this thread it gave me a idea. I added up all the income that I had the last 24 years and went to my banker to get a loan. I made my case and showed him all the money I made the last 24 years. He was not impressed, all he wanted to know was what did you make last year and how are thing going this year. Last year my income was way down from the other years and the outlook this year looks promising but there are still some question marks. Long story short, my banker didn't give a shit about all the money I made in the past.

:agree:

Of course not! None of these dudes would put real money on that, or put money on who will be ranked higher at the end of the season, or who will go further in the playoffs, etc. They'd rather just keep bringing up how good they were a few years ago, and how good they will be again in the future! We are in the process of overtaking them (Thank God for Ash) and they just flat out refuse to believe it. I'm not saying they're gonna suck like last year... I just don't think that's gonna happen. But they're not gonna be as good as us anytime soon.
